Possui graduação em Engenharia Elétrica pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1967), mestrado em Física pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (1974) e doutorado em Física pelo Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas (1978). Tem experiência na área de Física, com ênfase em Física da Matéria Condensada, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Supercondutividade de alta temperatura, Magnetismo, Sistemas Metálicos: Estrutura Eletrônica, Efeito Magnetocalorico, Calculos tipo Monte Carlo e Interacao Hiperfina.
