Ventanilla de Salud provides Latino families with bilingual and culturally relevant health education, free health screenings, health insurance information, and referrals to community health services.   Promotore de Salud and Community Health Center Collaborative, Descrição: The proposed project will equip and engage a cadre of existing Promotores de Salud (Community Health Workers) and a project coordinator to disseminate breast cancer, screening, and screening resource information throughout the Wyandotte county. One Promotora will be assigned specifically to this project and will be incorporated into a newly expanding Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) located in the County. My role consists in overseeing the implementation of a theory-based and culturally relevant training program for the project-based promotora de salud and the project coordinator. I will also be responsible for maintaining a network of community organizations in the Wy-County including promotores de salud from El Centro. I will also deliver training sessions to further enhance their cancer knowledge and enhance the proliferation of accurate breast cancer information and service referral options in Spanish.   Network for Tobacco Control among Women in Paraná, Brazil - II, Descrição: To develop and implement smoking cessation community health work intervention for Brazilian light smoker women. In this project we will also implement a tobacco control curriculum for health care providers and researchers in three states in Brazil. As a Principal Investigator of the sub-contract on the proposed study, I will oversee the implementation of a culturally-sensitive and ethic randomized clinical trial tailored to Brazilian smokers. This will include working closely with community health workers and research staff in all study activities including material development, training protocol, training activities, and study supervision. I will work closely with project director to monitor staffing for efficiency, supervise weekly scientific meetings with project staff and co-investigators, and collaborate with Dr. Sharina and clinical information specialist on developing data collection systems, analyzing data, and generating reports and manuscripts.   Mobilizing to Reduce Health Disparities among Latinos in Wyandotte County, Descrição: The aim of the grant is to implement the Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) process in Wyandotte County, KS and to create a strategic plan and Community Action Plan (CAP) to reduce health disparities in the county, with a lens on the Latino community. KUMC has partnered with El Centro, KU Workgroup for Community Health and Development and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Health Department. MAPP process will include four assessments including Community Themes and Strengths Assessment, Local Public Health System Assessment, Community Health Status Assessment and the Forces of Change Assessment. Upon completion of the assessments, a strategic plan will be in place to lead a follow up grant that will implement the plan of action. It involves collaborating with community-based primary care clinics to develop a representative registry of smokers, gather health care provider perspectives on the opportunities and challenges related to providing tobacco treatment, and developing and pilot testing an intervention to address barriers and optimize treatment.   Kansas Community Cancer Health Disparities Network, Descrição: The objective of this project is to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate a theory-based and culturally relevant training program to advance awareness and interest in cancer clinical trials among our state s Latino and American Indian (AI) communities. We will implement a community ambassador curriculum and train 20 community health workers (CHW). Training will equip CHWs with essential knowledge about the conduct of clinical trials, including the advantages and disadvantages of participation as well as providing CHWs with critical skills in disseminating information through their social networks. Implementation will be enhanced through a culturally tailored media campaign that will increase awareness about cancer research efforts, help build a knowledge base about the importance of participating in clinical trials, and reinforce CHW messages.
