Rômulo Mendonça Machado Carleial

I am broadly interested in evolutionary biology, ecology, and genetics. My past research focused on sexual selection, particularly sexual dichromatism and temporal dynamics in pre- and postcopulatory episodes of selection. More recently, I have been investigating associations between genetic variants and resilience to pathogens and environmental disturbances in different tree species. I am also interested in the philosophical implications of the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis and its proposed mechanisms, particularly the role of organismal agency in evolution.

Assessing genetic susceptibility to acute oak decline, Descrição: In this project we will estimate how much susceptibility to acute oak decline is inherited, look for genes that may confer resistance and predict individuals most likely to be resistant. Mapping the distribution and diversity of UK elm, Descrição: The aim is to understand how resistant elms could perform over the long-term against changing Dutch elm disease pressures.
