  RaioSat - Total Lightning Flash Detection from Space: A CubeSat Approach, Descrição: The RaioSat project intends to detect intra-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning flashes simultaneously, the so-called total lightning data, using an optical sensor and a VHF antenna onboard a CubeSat platform. Two different sensor networks that detect and locate lightning flashes in Brazil, called RINDAT and BrasilDAT, will be used as reference data. The RaioSat mission is expected to be in a LEO orbit at 650km and it will use a 3U-CubeSat aluminum frame (10x10x30cm) to accommodate the main platform and its payload. The main platform shall have telemetry, commanding and housekeeping capabilities via an on-board computer, 3-axis attitude control and a GPS. The payload shall have a VHF passive antenna (range of 50 to 200MHz) and a spectral imaging camera (SIC) with resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels leading to a surface imaging of 80 m/pixel. Also SIC shall have a spectral range from 700 to 900nm using a band-pass optical filter.   Development of a Langmuir probe to be launched on board a nano satellite Cubesat, Descrição: The project envisages the development of a scientific experiment, a Langmuir Probe (SLP)to be flown on board one of the nano satellites CubeSat for making in-situ measurements of the ionospheric plasma density and temperature along the trajectory of the CubeSat. The main steps of the project are:· Development of a new engineering model, compacted with miniature components of a Langmuir Probe, already flown on board sounding rockets and on board the micro satellite SACI-1.· Development and qualification of an interface between the scientific experiment and the on board computer of the CubeSat for storing and preprocessing of the scientific data from the experiment.· Fabrication of the Qualifiaction and or the Prototype and Flight Models of the experiment.   AMBIEnT - Affordable Microsatellite-Based Internet access and Environmental moniToring, Descrição: AMBIEnT is a project conducted by an interdisciplinary and international team at the Space Studies Program 2013 at the International Space University (Strasbourg, France). The project discusses and analyzes several issues such as technical, economical and political/legal feasibility of an infrastructure for IP-Based services providing communications and environmental monitoring, maximizing social benefits and reducing costs. Major micro-satellites constellations operators can provide real-time Internet services to customers. Nevertheless, for most part of the world, some services might not be still affordable hence sub-optimal solutions providing near-real-time connections could cover a span of essential communications services.   UbatubaSat, Descrição: The teaching of science in Brazil has been achieving moderate results as well as the youngsters interest for careers in the techno-scientific field is still low. We believe that projects like the UbatubaSat project of a picosatellite might be a roadmap for public Brazilian schools to change this reality. This initiative is being developed since 2010 by the Tancredo de Almeida Neves School in Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brazil, with technological support from INPE, the National Space Research Institute. The project has seen encouraging results towards promoting students´ interest in engineering, science and technology, especially in Aerospace Engineering, by the assembly, integration, testing, coding and launch of a picosatellite. This also promotes teamwork among different levels of education because some activities are being developed by basic level, others are planned for secondary technical students and some are even within the scope of INPEs graduate courses. The project has received recognition from the national and international scientific community and received support for its activities from organizations such as UNESCO, AEB Brazilian Space Agency, amongst others. Briefly, Tancredo1 is the first picosatellite of the UbatubaSat project and it is a compact tube-shaped pico-satellite with a mass of less than 0.75 kg based on TubeSat kit from Interorbital Systems (IOS) [1]. It will be launched in early 2015 to the Kibo (きぼう, Hope) module of ISS - International Space Station [2] having two payloads: (1) an educational voice recorder and (2) an experimental Langmuir probe from INPE Ionosphere research group on Plasma Bubbles.   Picosatélite Tancredo-I, Descrição: The teaching of science in Brazil has been achieving moderate results as well as the youngsters interest for careers in the techno-scientific field is still low. We believe that projects like the UbatubaSat project of a picosatellite might be a roadmap for public Brazilian schools to change this reality. This initiative is being developed since 2010 by the Tancredo de Almeida Neves School in Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brazil, with technological support from INPE, the National Space Research Institute. The project has seen encouraging results towards promoting students interest in engineering, science and technology, especially in Aerospace Engineering, by the assembly, integration, testing, coding and launch of a picosatellite. This also promotes teamwork among different levels of education because some activities are being developed by basic level, others are planned for secondary technical students and some are even within the scope of INPEs graduate courses. The project has received recognition from the national and international scientific community and received support for its activities from organizations such as UNESCO, AEB Brazilian Space Agency, amongst others. Briefly, Tancredo1 is the first picosatellite of the UbatubaSat project and it is a compact tube-shaped pico-satellite with a mass of less than 0.75 kg based on TubeSat kit from Interorbital Systems (IOS) [1]. It will be launched in early 2015 to the Kibo (, Hope) module of ISS - International Space Station [2] having two payloads: (1) an educational voice recorder and (2) an experimental Langmuir probe from INPE Ionosphere research group on Plasma Bubbles. The project discusses and analyzes several issues such as technical, economical and political/legal feasibility of an infrastructure for IP-Based services providing communications and environmental monitoring, maximizing social benefits and reducing costs. Major micro-satellites constellations operators can provide real-time Internet services to customers. Nevertheless, for most part of the world, some services might not be still affordable hence sub-optimal solutions providing near-real-time connections could cover a span of essential communications services.
