José Joaquim de Moura Ramos

Joaquim de Moura is a highly accomplished computer scientist and researcher with a wealth of experience and a strong track record of academic and professional achievements. He received his M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2016, where he was awarded first place for the best Master's Degree project by the Professional College of Computer Engineering in Galicia. He then went on to earn his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in 2019, graduating cum laude and receiving the International Doctor Mention and the Extraordinary PhD Award (1st place in the area of Computer Science and Mathematics) at the University of A Coruña. In 2020, he was recognized by the Royal Galician Academy of Sciences for his contributions to the fight against COVID-19. Throughout his career, de Moura has published over 145 peer-reviewed papers in a variety of highly regarded journals and conferences.Currently, de Moura is an Assistant Lecturer at the University of A Coruña and a member of the renowned Varpa group (Competitive Reference Group) affiliated with the Centre for Information and Communications Technology Research - CITIC (Singular Research Center) and the Biomedical Research Institute of A Coruña - INIBIC (Health Research Institute accredited by ISCIII) . The Varpa group was awarded the best research group in Galicia in 2020 (1st edition) and the recognition from the Galician Health Cluster in the VII Fórum RIES 2022. De Moura has received several competitive fellowships, including two postdoctoral fellowships from the Xunta de Galicia (grant ref. ED481B 2021/059) and CITIC (grant ref. 2020/CP/015), as well as a predoctoral fellowship from the CITIC (grant ref. 2017/CP/054). In addition to his work at the University of A Coruña, de Moura has also gained international experience through his research positions as a visiting researcher at the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER) affiliated with the INESC-TEC (National Institute of Systems Engineering and Computing) at the University of Porto and as a postdoctoral visiting researcher at the Quantitative Healthcare Analysis (QurAI) group at the University of Amsterdam, both renowned research centers in the field of medical image analysis. Additionally, de Moura held a visiting teaching position at the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Piauí (IFPI-Brazil) in the postgraduate program, where he specialized in teaching and researching in the fields of computer vision and artificial intelligence, further enhancing his pedagogical and academic expertise in these advanced technological areas.Currently, he is the Principal Investigator of an international collaboration network on AI for Diagnosing Diabetic Retinopathy in Remote Areas using Portable Retinographs, funded by CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT N22/2024 (Ref. 444625/2024-0).De Moura has participated in 22 regional, national, and international projects, and has also participated in 16 I+D+i competitive contracts with public or private entities involving technology transfer, as well as 16 software registrations. He is an active member of the research community, serving as a member of the review committee for several well-established journals and participating in the technical and organizational committees of many reputed conferences. He is also an expert evaluator of research projects from different international calls. His main research interests are in the fields of artificial intelligence, computer vision, image processing, machine learning, pattern recognition, and biomedical image analysis.

Medicina personalizada en la degeneración macular asociada a la edad en base a técnicas de Imagen, Farmacocinética y Farmacogenética (ImagePKgen-DMAE) (PI17/00940), Descrição: El objetivo principal de este proyecto es lograr una correcta estratificación de la respuesta al tratamiento con ranibizumab del paciente con DMAE húmeda, usando para ello una integración global de técnicas de imagen, farmacocinética y farmacogenética. Dentro de este objetivo principal, se definen los siguientes objetivos secundarios: ? Desarrollo de metodologías basadas en visión artificial que permitan la caracterización de la DMAE sobre imágenes OCT y OCTA. Asociado a dicha caracterización, demostrar y estandarizar la respuesta al tratamiento (Image). ? Mostrar de manera precisa la farmacocinética de ranibizumab tras administración intravitrea en pacientes con DMAE, y evaluar la relación frente a la respuesta terapéutica en los regímenes T&E (PK) ? Analizar si existen diferencias significativas en variantes farmacogenéticas de cara a respuesta a tratamiento en pacientes con ranibizumab tanto a nivel de variación germinal como de expresión mediante el análisis de miRNAs que nos permitan una estratificación de los pacientes respondedores vs no-respondedores (Gen). ? Establecer un modelo farmacocinético poblacional que integre la información disponible y evalúe los factores intrínsecos y extrínsecos que permitan explicar las diferencias observadas en la exposición a ranibizumab y su relación con los marcadores de respuesta, permitiendo una correcta estratificación de los pacientes respondedores vs no respondedores. RetinAS - CPAP Effect on the Progression of Diabetic Retinopathy in Patients with Apnea (NCT02874313), Descrição: To compare the percentage of patients with new microaneurysm or hard exudates after 12 months between the CPAP group and the control group. Identificación y Caracterización del Edema Macular Diabetico Mediante Análisis Automático de Tomografias de Coherencia Óptica y Técnicas De Aprendizaje Máquina (DPI2015-69948-R), Descrição: El objetivo global de este proyecto es el desarrollo de un sistema que permita la clasificación automática del EMD y el análisis de su evolución en función de correlaciones con diferentes tipos de variables. Así, los esfuerzos estarán dirigidos a desarrollar metodologías automáticas de procesado de imagen que permitan identificar y cuantificar de forma objetiva y repetible las anomalías asociadas al EMD visibles en los cortes de OCT.
