Arthur Belford Powell

Graduado em Matemática e Estatística pela Hampshire College (1976), Mestre em Matemática pela University of Michigan (1977) e Doutor em Educação Matemática pela Rutgers University (2003). Ensina, publica e conduz pesquisa em Educação Matemática. Atualmente é Professor Associado de Educação Matemática no Departamento de Educção Urbana no campus de Newark da Rutgers University (New Jersey). É diretor Associado e pesquisador do Robert B. Davis Institute for Learning of the Graduate School of Education. Coordena o Grupo de Pesquisa sobre Comunicação, Tecnologia e aprendizagem matemática da Rutgers University que está empenhado em um projeto investigativo e educativo denominado eMath. É diretor interino do Programa de Política Educacional e sistemas urbanos (Program in Educational Policy, Urban Systems). Além disso, está profundamente engajado em projetos de colaboração internacional entre educadores matemáticos da Rutgers University e os do hemisfério no Sul (Moçambique, África do Sul, Brasil e Haiti). Seus interesses de pesquisa estão relacionados à escrita e à aprendizagem matemática; etnomatemática, desenvolvimento das ideias, raciocínio e heurística matemáticos; desenvolvimento profissional de professores para o ensino de Matemática; e resolução de problemas em Matemática de modo colaborativo e com tecnologia.
