  GUARANTEE OF USES WITH SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN THE TERRITORIES OF THE GREEN EXTRACTIVE RESERVE FOREVER, Descrição: The Verde Para Sempre (Green Forever) Extractive Reserve is located in the Municipality of Porto de Moz, in the State of Pará, in the region where the Amazon and the Xingu rivers converge, which is the mesoregion of the Low Amazonas. It borders the right-hand side margin of the Amazon River in the North, and the municipalities of Vitória do Xingu and Brasil Novo in the South, the Renascer RESEX in the municipality of Prainha in the West, and the left-hand side margin of the Xingu River in the East. According to a presidential decree issued on November 8, 2004, the RESEX has a total area of 1,288,717 hectares (one million, two hundred and eighty-eight thousand, seven hundred and seventeen hectares). Since it was created, the Reserve has had a history of conflicts between loggers and riverside communities, which has further aggravated in a way that poses a threat to the life of traditional populations as well as to the Reserve?s compliance with its social and environmental role. Production systems, by both riverside and family farmers, including medium size and large estate owners, are themselves also bottlenecks to enforcing the legislation, more specifically the National System of Conservation Units (SNUC). Those facts underline the aggravating environmental problems and land conflicts of the Low Xingu and the need to curb advancing deforestation and predatory exploration of timber in that area as well as the disorderly use of natural resources and the need to ensure land usufruct to the communities. It is important to understand the operation of productive systems, land conflicts and traditional community demands if we are to propose adaptations and/or changes to the productive standard of residents who wish to continue living and availing of the Reserve?s natural resources in accordance with category standards.
