  A Ambição Climática dos países BRICS, Descrição: How big is the climate ambition of the BRICS countries? While developed countries have been the main contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions historically, in recent years some developing countries have also shown high emission rates, even exceeding those of the industrialized states of the global North. This is the case with BRICS countries. These five countries are becoming increasingly important in the multilateral climate negotiations, to the point where their mitigation targets are proving to be fundamental to the achievement of the Paris Agreement's ultimate goal of limiting global warming to 2C, and ideally to 1.5 C. To understand the level of climate ambition of the BRICS countries, we conduct a comparative analysis of the five of them. We look at the national emissions profile and the NDCs they present under the Paris Agreement, the main policies and the climate initiatives in different sectors, the positions taken in the UNFCCC negotiations, and the key domestic challenges to increase their climate ambition.
