  Biomass Energy Platforms Implementation for Training in Latin America - Network, BEPINET, Descrição: The main focus of the project will be capacity building in the field of biomass energy technology in order to increase the implementation of biomass technology in dedicated region and facilitate the set up of policy options to boost the promotion of decentralized biomass production and biomass based energy generation. The general objectives are strengthening local energy expertise through the setting up of extensive interactive training networks within Latin America and Europe and with West Africa through the BEPITA Project. The specific objectives will be to promote an efficient use of natural resources for energy and to create the conditions for an appropriate biomass technology implementation and transfer in Latin America. Bepinet will implement regional training platforms to groups of stakeholders that link education activity, applied research and practical demonstrative applications. One new and original objective is to promote and reinforce the South-South Cooperation between Africa and Latin America. We hope to build up a critical mass of human capital to create an international biomass energy network. For all this, BEPINET matches the EC's Communication COM (2002) 408 final proposing a reference framework and operational recommendations to boost energy cooperation with developing countries. It is also in line with the priorities adopted by the commission on 3 December 2004 that aims at improving access to energy services in order to reduce poverty in developing countries, through partnerships in the fields of institutional capacity building and technical co-operation/skills transfer. Description of the work The energy supply rate & energy services available in rural Latin America is increasing but is still relatively low compare to the urban areas. For domestic needs as well as rural & industrial generation of heat or electricity, biomass offers an economical alternative and a real opportunity for development as it is locally available and may of.
