Maíra Aguiar
Concluiu o doutoramento em Biologia Populacional pela Universidade de Lisboa e em Ciências da Vida pela Universidade de Amsterdão em 2012. A pesquisa principal abrange diversas áreas da epidemiologia de doenças infecciosas, com especial enfoque no estudo da dengue e outras doenças transmitidas por vetores. O trabalho concentra-se na análise da dinâmica dessas doenças por meio do desenvolvimento de modelos matemáticos. Esses modelos servem como ferramentas valiosas para autoridades de saúde pública, auxiliando na compreensão e previsão da transmissão de doenças, além de avaliar e orientar a implementação de medidas de intervenção, como estratégias de manejo de vetores. Atualmente, é Investigadora Principal da linha de pesquisa "Mathematical and Theoretical Biology" (MTB) no Centro Vasco de Matemática Aplicada (BCAM), na Espanha. Sob sua liderança, o grupo MTB é formado por uma equipe interdisciplinar de matemáticos, físicos e cientistas da saúde, com membros de seis países diferentes. O grupo tem se destacado pela produção de pesquisas de alta qualidade, incluindo publicações em revistas científicas de renome e apresentações em conferências internacionais.Já publicou mais de 90 artigos científicos em revistas de alto impacto nas áreas de matemática e saúde. O trabalho tem sido amplamente reconhecido, com um h-index de 29 no Google Scholar, mais de 2.350 citações, e contribuições significativas para conectar a pesquisa teórica à prática e às políticas de saúde pública. Além disso, desempenhou um papel ativo na comunidade científica internacional como membro da diretoria da European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB) entre 2018 e 2022, servindo como vice-presidente de 2018 a 2020. Durante esse período, contribuiu para o fortalecimento da área na Europa e promoveu colaborações interdisciplinares. Destaca-se também na obtenção de financiamentos competitivos para pesquisa, liderando projetos financiados por importantes agências internacionais. Atualmente, é Ikerbasque Associate Professor e Ramón y Cajal researcher, posições que apoiam sua pesquisa inovadora em modelagem matemática em epidemiologia. Nos últimos cinco anos, captou mais de 2 milhões de euros em financiamento, fortalecendo sua capacidade de realizar projetos de impacto global. Além disso, tem um papel fundamental na formação de jovens cientistas, desenvolvendo suas habilidades em redação de propostas de financiamento, publicação científica e organização de eventos. Nos últimos cinco anos, ministrou mais de 50 palestras convidadas em conferências e seminários internacionais, incluindo apresentações como keynote speaker. Também organiza ativamente conferências científicas internacionais, promovendo o avanço do conhecimento na interseção entre matemática, biologia e saúde pública.
