Maria Costanza Torri

Possui doutorado em Socio-antropologia - Université Paris1-Panthéon-Sorbonne (2005). Tem experiência na área de Antropologia, com ênfase em Antropologia Rural Maria Costanza TORRI é bolsista e pesquisadora do departamento de Direitos do Homem e do Centro de Educação da Universidade de Ottawa e é bolsista de pós-doutorado no Departamento de Geografia da Université de Montreal: Ela é especialista em ecologia política, antropologia ambiental, ethnomedicina, Direitos da Propriedade Intelectual, Direitos do Homem, ética, pesquisa participativa (co-requerente). Maria Costanza Torri adquiriu experiência nos últimos anos, sobre políticas ambientais e nas questões de desenvolvimento sustentável nos países em desenvolvimento. Após seus estudos em Economia na Universidade de Ancona (Itália), ela concluiu dois anos de pesquisa na IAMM-CIHEAM, em Montpellier, na França. Em seguida, ela terminou seu DEA (Diploma de Estudos Aprofundados) em Sociologia na Université Paris 1 - Pantheon-Sorbonne e um PhD no ramo científico, trabalhando na Universidade acima mencionada como bolsista e pesquisadora. Seu tema de pesquisa esteve centrado na análise de conservação da diversidade biológica e a utilização sustentável dos recursos naturais em áreas de proteção por comunidades da Ásia do Sul, particularmente da Índia. Concentrou-se sobre a política de conservação e o impacto social sobre as comunidades locais, o estabelecimento das aldeias assim como o seu papel dentro das iniciativas de conservação baseadas sobre a comunidade e também no papel das organizações não governamentais e dos movimentos populares na promoção da conservação da diversidade biológica participante. Durante seu trabalho de campo, ela passou diversos meses em Rajasthan (Sariska região de Reserva do Tigre), Gujarat (Gir Reserva Leão), Maharashtra (Distrito de Gadchiroli) et Uttar Pradesh (Região de Uttarakhand). Ao estudar as comunidades tribais, sua integração com o ecossistema de floresta, sua gestão e o sistema de conservação dos recursos naturais pelos estabelecimentos locais, ela também observou as vias pelas quais a cultura tribal e as tradições afetaram a característica durável dos recursos naturais renováveis. Graças a sua atuação, uma colaboração recente de pesquisa foi realizada entre Paris1-IEDES e IRD, na França. O resultado foi uma monografia de pesquisa (Vivre dans la biodiversité: l?étude de cas de la réserve de tigres de Sariska, Rajasthan, Inde: Viver na biodiversidade: estudo de caso na reserva dos tigres de Sariska Rajasthan, India), publicado pela editora l?Harmattan (Paris) em 2007. No curso dos anos 2006-2007 ela foi bolsista e pesquisadora pela Universidade Aberta (Faculdade de Tecnologia). No contexto, ela examinou as conseqüências da atividade de bioprospecção em populações locais relacionadas ao desenvolvimento socioeconômico e também o papel das comunidades no campo da bioprospecção. Atualmente ela está associada ao Centro de Pesquisa dos Direitos do Homem da Universidade de Ottawa e é bolsista de pós-doutorado no Departamento de Geografia da Université de Montreal, trabalhando no papel das empresas indígenas na India e no Canadá no que diz respeito a promoção de formas igualitárias e participativas ao acesso e a utilização da diversidade biológica e do conhecimento tradicional. Sua experiência universitária foi reforçada ao realizar estudos de impacto e de análise de avaliação na Índia, África e Europa, para diversas organizações não-governamentais, para agências de consulta e recentemente para a Comissão Européia (EU)
