Dominik Hartmann

Possui doutorado em Economia pela Universidade de Hohenheim, Alemanha (2014); mestrado em Economia Internacional e Desenvolvimento pela Universidade Complutense de Madri, Espanha (2010); e graduação em Administração de Empresas pela Universidade de Augsburgo, Alemanha (2006). Foi pós-doutorando no MIT Media Lab do Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) em 2014-2015, com bolsa do programa Marie Curie da União Europeia; e foi pesquisador visitante na Universidade de São Paulo em 2018-2019, com bolsa da FAPESP. Sua pesquisa usa métodos de economia, sistemas complexos e sociologia para analisar as relações entre inovação, mudança estrutural e desigualdade. Atualmente é professor adjunto no Departamento de Economia e Relações Internacionais da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina e Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq. Tem experiência em consultorias internacionais, tendo realizado projetos de pesquisa para o Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento (BID) e para o Banco Mundial sobre estratégias de diversificação inteligente e crescimento inclusivo. Além disso, publicou em revistas internacionais como World Development, Research Policy, Regional Studies, Social Indicators Research, Scientometrics, e Structural Change and Economic Dynamics.

Crescimento inteligente, inclusivo e sustentável ? Novas perspectivas da complexidade econômica, mobilidade e eficiência social, Descrição: CNPq/MCTI/FNDCT N 18/2021 - Faixa A - Grupos Emergentes. O crescimento inteligente, inclusivo e sustentável consiste na transformação estrutural da economia, que engaja indivíduos e empresas em atividades inovadoras, promove igualdade, mobilidade e eficiência social, e sustentabilidade ambiental. A Complexidade Econômica permite uma perspectiva refinada sobre como a sofisticação econômica está associada às variáveis socioeconômicas, incluindo crescimento econômico, desigualdade e sustentabilidade. O grupo emergente Núcleo de Estudos em Complexidade, Desenvolvimento e Desigualdade (NECODE) usa novos métodos empíricos interdisciplinares para identificar os gargalos e oportunidades de especialização e diversificação inteligente, inclusivo e sustentável. Contudo, há poucos estudos e dados regionais sobre o impacto da complexidade na mobilidade e eficiência social no Brasil, bem como utilização de novos métodos para estratégias de CIIS. NECODE desenvolve novos métodos da análise de redes, pesquisa operacional, revisão sistemática de literatura e econometria, por meio de um time interdisciplinar de pesquisadores de várias universidades do Brasil e outros países. Smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth in Brazil, Descrição: Recent approaches in production engineering and economic policy making have highlighted the need for smart, sustainable and inclusive productive diversification of the regional and national production systems (e.g. Hartmann et al., 2017; Hidalgo and Hartmann, 2017; European Commission, 2010; Balland et al. 2017; Mariano, Rebelatto et al., 2016; Putz and Klocke, 2017). Yet identifying structural constraints and opportunities to accomplish this is not easy, but requires new interdisciplinary approaches considering both general challenges imposed by the digital age, as well as country and region-specific productive capabilities (Hartmann et al., 2016). While recent research on the digital age (Frey and Osborne, 2017; Brynjolfsson and McAfee, 2012) has made significant advancements in the analysis of challenges and opportunities for new technologies, economic diversification and the future of employment in highly industrialized economies, the knowledge about opportunities and challenges in developing and emerging countries and regions is still sparse (World Bank, 2016, Hartmann, 2016b). New methods from big data analysis methods and interdisciplinary research, though, allow for the creation of a more fine-grained picture of the productive capabilities and opportunities of each scientific agent, economic region, and country (Hidalgo, et al., 2007; Hidalgo and Hausmann, 2009; Guevara et al., 2016; Hartmann, 2016 2017, Hidalgo and Hartmann, 2017). This is particularly relevant in a country as diverse as Brazil, in which firms, workers and policy makers may have unique opportunities or challenges across the country. Despite multiple institutional and technological challenges, Brazil and its heterogeneous regions has the opportunity of becoming a leading global example in smart, green and inclusive growth. Thereby, it can draw on its strengths in bioeconomics, leading research institutions, and recent successful inequality reduction programs. CONNECTING-EU! (Network analysis of economic development and social cohesion in Europe), Descrição: The Connecting_EU! project has applied cutting-edge methods from network analysis, econometrics and data visualization to analyze the network structure of economic development and social cohesion in Europe and around the world. We analyzed data from millions of publications and patents, as well as trade data from hundreds of countries between 1962 and 2010. Knowledge Transfer in Turkish-German Innovation Networks in the Context of the European Integration, Descrição: Migration is conceived differently in Europe compared with countries like the US, Canada or Australia. This project on International Innovation Networks and Knowledge Migration between Turkey and Germany confronted traditional views on migration with modern theories of brain circulation and innovation networks, showing that migration leads to mutual benefits for both the home and host countries The project made several case studies and empirical in-depth analyses which are constructed from the strong migration relationship between Turkey and Germany that has existed for more than 50 years. The project showed that knowledge migration and cultural diversity can strongly stimulate entrepreneurial activities, competence acquisition and economic development of countries and regions.
