Thiago Rodrigues Guimarães

Possui graduação em Engenharia Química pela Universidade de São Paulo (2012) e doutorado em Química de Polímeros pela Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (2017), na França. Realizou dois estágios de pós-doutorado na Austrália, na University of New South Wales (UNSW), em Sydney, de 2018 a 2021 e na Queensland University of Technology (QUT), em Brisbane, de 2021 a 2023. Desde fevereiro de 2023, é pós-doutorando na Université de Bordeaux, na França, trabalhando no desenvolvimento de nanopartículas para produção de hidrogênio verde via fotocatálise. Desde fevereiro de 2023, exerce também o cargo de pesquisador convidado pela Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Tem experiência na área de Química, com ênfase em Polímeros, Nanocompósitos e Coloides, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: polimerização em emulsão, nanocompósitos de argila, nanopartículas magnéticas, nanoengenharia de partículas poliméricas, polimerização do tipo RAFT, materiais responsivos à luz, caracterização de polímeros e hidrogênio verde.

    Nanoparticle design for hydrogen production via photocatalysis, Descrição: Climate emergency, resulting from contemporary human lifestyles, require joint efforts from our society to curtail CO2 emission. Nations worldwide are prioritizing renewable energy sources to reshape their energy matrix. In this context, photocatalytic generation of H2 via water splitting emerges as a promising solar fuel due to its low carbon footprint. Herein, a versatile platform is designed to the preparation of functional #960;-conjugated organic nanoparticles dispersed in aqueous phase via miniemulsification method. Such particles are composed of Donor-Acceptor trimers prepared via Stille coupling and they are stabilized by amphiphilic block copolymers, synthesized by RAFT polymerization.     A New Frontier in Observing and Controlling Macromolecular Morphologies at the Picometer Level, Descrição: Stimuli-responsive polymers are a class of sophisticated materials which respond to external stimuli such as light, temperature or pH. Among these stimuli, light offers exceptional spatiotemporal control, as a traceless stimulus. There exists a plethora of powerful photochemical reactions, such as photo-isomerizations, -ligations, -dissociations and -oxidations. Thus, incorporation of photo-switchable moieties into polymer chains is a viable strategy to remotely control the properties of such materials.     Multiblock Copolymers via RAFT emulsion polymerization, Descrição: A multiblock copolymer is a polymer of a specific structure that consists of multiple covalently linked segments, each comprising a different monomer type. The control of monomer sequence has often been described as the holy grail of synthetic polymer chemistry, the ultimate goal being synthetic access to polymer of perfect structure, where each monomeric building block is placed in a desired position along the polymer chain. However, traditional methods have typically fallen short in terms of reaction time, limited conversion, low molecular weights and/or high dispersity values (). Our strategy based on reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization implemented as an emulsion polymerization enables the synthesis of multiblock copolymers generated from seed particles acting as nanoreactors.2 By exploiting the segregation effect (compartmentalization), well-defined multiblock copolymers can be prepared in a relatively short period of time.     Synthesis of magnetic polymer latex particles by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization in aqueous dispersed media, Descrição: The incorporation of iron oxide nanoparticles into polymer matrices has attracted increasing attention over the last twenty years, due to the magnetic properties conferred to the hybrid material. On the other hand, the ability to control macromolecular architectures can be of key importance in designing materials with novel properties. In this project, reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization was exploited to synthesize well-defined cationic and anionic amphiphilic block copolymers. An aqueous dispersion of iron oxide clusters was next prepared using a strategy based on emulsification/solvent evaporation in which the block copolymers were used as stabilizers. These clusters were then used as seeds in the emulsion polymerization of styrene/divinyl benzene resulting in a core-shell morphology.
