Lena-Friederike Schimke

Possui graduação em Medicina Humana, doutorado em Pediatria-Imunologia pela Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (2011) e Residencia Medica em Imunologia e Reumatologia pela University of Lubeck e University of Freiburg (2015 - 2019). Realizou pos-doutorado pela Universidade de Sao Paulo, Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas (2011-2015) atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: erros inatos do sistema imune e susceptibilidade aos fungos.Tem experiência na área de Imunologia, com ênfase em imunogenética, erros inatos de imunidade, suscetibilidade a doenças infecciosas, desregulação imunológica e doenças autoimunes. Atualmente desenvolve suas pesquisas na Universidade de São Paulo, Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas, como pesquisadora independente na área de biologia integrativa de sistemas de síndromes de desregulação imunológica incluindo COVID-19. Ela ganhou experiência em análise de dados de alto rendimento e biologia de sistemas. Recebeu a bolsa de longa duração da European Society for Immunodeficiency (ESID) em 2010 e a bolsa da Sociedade Latino-Americana para a Imunodeficiência (LASID) em 2020, além de apoio financeiro da Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo( FAPESP) e do programa de cientista clínico da Universidade de Luebeck, Alemanha por seus projetos de pesquisa.

The investigation of new immunological and genetic mechanisms in patients with infectious diseases and immune dysregulation, Descrição: The present study aims to identify known and novel genetic variations and new immunological pathways in young (0-25 years) patients with infectious diseases, immune dysregulation, and suspect of underlying inborn error of immunity (IEI). To achieve this aim, we are employing a stepwise, integrative analysis including next generation sequencing (NGS) and DNA sequencing to uncover new immunological pathways and inborn errors of immunity. We further investigate immunological pathways in the intersection between the susceptibility to infectious diseases, inflammatory syndromes and the development of immune dysregulation by analyzing high-throughput transcriptome and proteome data in order to better understand the immunopathology underlying these disease entities. There is an urgent need to better understand the immunopathological mechanisms underlying these disorders to improve the diagnosis, impacting the prognosis and therapeutic options.
