Jacques Gérard Julien Werckmann

Foi graduado em físico-química pela Université Louis Pasteur, França. Doutor em cristalografia pelo laboratório de Mineralogia da Université Louis Pasteur, França. Foi pesquisador do Laboratório de Mineralogia da Université Louis Pasteur, França. De 1990 a 2006 chefe do centro de microscopia do Institut de Physico-Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (IPCMS). De 1999 a 2003 foi o presidente do Consorcio de Microscopia Electronica de Estrasburgo França. O consórcio inclui 20 laboratórios (medicina, biologia, chemie e fisica) . Foi coordenador de 4 contratos internacionais, e um contrato industrial com o Instituto Frances de Petróleo, para o desenvolvimento da microscopia tomográfica analítica. Além disso foi parceiro em diversos projetos para estudo de biomateriais, especialmente projetos com outros países europeus como no caso do projeto em andamento denominado EUREKA para estudo de biomateriais nanoestruturados. Atualmente dedica-se ao estudo de processos de biomineralização, em organismos multicelulares primitivos como esponjas calcáreas, em moluscos, e processos de ossificação em torno de implantes em animais de experimentação visando aplicações clínicas para implantologia e engenharia de osso.

    Si and Ge Quantum Dots on LaAlO3 (001), Descrição: Quantum dots of Si and Ge on LaAlO3 (001) Epitaxial oxide materials with high dielectric constant high-k materials) have attracted considerable attention in the past decade, in part because of the need to replace SiO2 as dielectric layer in the field effect transitors in order to continue the Moore?s law scaling. On the other hand, semiconductor/crystalline oxide/semiconductor heterostructures allows to develop devices such as non volatile memory or new devices based on the crystalline oxide functionalities such as magnetism, ferroelectricity and superconductivity. The interest in perovskite LaAlO3 (LAO) is due to its promising characteristic including high value of dielectric constant ( ~24), good thermodynamic stability with respect to Si and reasonable band offsets (>1ev) with Si. Moreover, LAO exhibits a low misfit with Si so these heterostructures have an abrupt interface in order to reduce the electric trap density. In previous studies pure Si crystalline island have been grown by MBE above 550°C on LAO(001) surface [1] . Well crystallized Si quantum dots where the Si(001) planes are parallel to LAO(001) ones, but are rotated by 45° in the [001] direction have been obtained and neither silicate nor silica at the Si/LAO have been observed . Other deposits of Si and Ge have been carried out at higher temperatures, one can be expected plastique and/or chemical relaxation process at the interfaces.     Analytical Tomographie, Descrição: The increasing level of research that is nowadays performed on the nanoscale requires specific powerful tools to characterize objects on that scale. We demonstrate in this project the usefulness of three-dimensional transmission electron microscopy (3D-TEM) used in a quantitative way to image and characterize nanomaterials with complex structures and morphologies. The tomographic recording process is a powerful tool to improve the signal-to-noise ratio when imaging nano-objects that cannot strongly extinguish electrons and to clear up the ambiguity of image interpretation due to superposition effects. The resulting ability to distinguish between the ??inner?? and the ??outer?? parts of an object as well as to determine its 3D characteristics can in turn yield quantitative information and constitutes the main focus of this project.     Metallic implant coated by CaP Using pulsed laser deposition, Descrição: Objective: Enhance the biocompatibility and bioactivity of metallic implant. The natural bone presents a very complex structure optimized at all scales. Unfortunately our present knowledge does not allow us to reproduce the structured bone. However, by a biomimetic approach certain characteristics can be approximated allowing for a better integration of biological implants or bone filling materials. According to this way, Titanium were coated of two bioactive calcium phosphate: octacalcium phosphate (OCP) and Mn doped carbonated hydroxyapatite (Mn-CHA). Coating with this material well suited for biomimetic medical prostheses and pivots were synthesized on titanium substrates with a pulsed KrF UV laser source. In vitro cell growth shows an excellent adherence and biocompatibility of osteoblasts and fibroblasts in both OCP and Mn-CHA coatings.     Synthesis of mesoporous materials, Descrição: The synthesis of new mesoporous materials has been studied for their potential application for energy storage and as an electrode in Super Capacity. The method consists of the use of a hard template, also called exotemplate, which is impregnated with carbon and then selectively removed by chemical etching. The resulting carbon replica displays a reverse porosity of the starting host material. Numerous templates with controlled porosity have been tested for the preparation of carbon replicas by this nanocasting process.     Silicon Carbide with high specific surface for catalysis, Descrição: Searching for new more stable catalyst supports for heterogeneous catalysis, replacing high surface area oxide such as alumina, is a major economic issue in the field of depollution car exhaust gases. In this project the nucleation-growth of the high surface area silicon carbide synthesized is studied by high resolution electron transmission microscopy, to determine its structure, the nature of the porosity and distribution of the metal nano-catalyst (Pt -Rh) associated with cerium oxide (Pt-Rh / SiC-Ce).     Interaction of copper with cordierite, Descrição: The possibility of achieving copper-to-cordierite cosintering using a eutectic bonding technique was investigated. Optimized cosintering conditions were determined, in particular the firing atmosphere and heating schedule.
