Creative Exchange, Descrição: The Creative Exchange (CX) is a Knowledge Exchange Hub for the Creative Economy funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). We aim to develop strategic partnerships with creative businesses and cultural organisations, to strengthen and diversify their collaborative research activities and increase the number of Arts and Humanities researchers actively engaged in research-based knowledge exchange. CX has a network of 41 partners throughout the UK who we will be collaborating with, including: the BBC, MediaCity UK, Microsoft Research, TATE Liverpool, SAGE Gateshead, Opera North, NESTA, Lancaster City Council, the Storey Creative Industries Centre, FutureEverything and over 30 small and medium sized companies working in the sector. Our research in Newcastle will focus on cross-disciplinary, user-centred and participatory research with users and industrial partners. Our collaborative research will explore the broad theme of the digital public space through six key themes; personalisation, experience, participation, connectivity, narrative and identity. This will inform to the development of prototype digital systems and services that innovate in the areas of broadcast interactive media, user-generated content, narrative experience and live performance, leading to local and national deployments and field trials. Newcastle s node of the CX is supporting this research by offering 7 fully-funded PhD studentships to undertake project-focused, practice-based research, including funding to support placements with out creative sector partners (please see here for further information). . , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Integrantes: Andreia Margarida Batista Custódio Cavaco - Integrante / Patrick Olivier - Integrante / Peter Wright - Coordenador.

CILMI, Descrição: Influenced by the developments in information and communication technologies and pressured by the dramatic changes in demographics in our societies, health care is and must be transforming to remain viable and of high quality. An important element in such changing health care is the emergence of personal health systems. Based on smart home environments and wearable, implantable, portable systems, citizens are empowered to manage their own health status. It enhances the opportunities for independent living of an ageing population, for instance by providing technology-driven support to Alzheimer s patients in every-day tasks. It also provides personalized support for lifestyle management, including preventative opportunities. Such systems require data capturing and runtime data analysis technologies to be integrated, and must deal with fears, distrust and potential privacy infringements for its users (patients and citizens). In this project, we bring together these three elements: (i) data capturing software infrastructures for lifestyle management as being pursued by U. Trento, Italy (UniTn); (ii) data analysis as being researched in various contexts at the Catholic University of Rio Grande del Sul, Brazil (PUCRS); (iii) research in trust and privacy as pursued in the context of health, inclusion and other application areas at Newcastle University, UK (UNEW).. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Integrantes: Andreia Margarida Batista Custódio Cavaco - Integrante / Aad van Moorsel - Coordenador / Fabio CASATI - Integrante / Duncan Dubugras Alcoba Ruiz - Integrante., Financiador(es): Specific FP7 programme 'People' - Cooperação.

Social Inclusion through the Digital Economy, Descrição: SiDE is an interdisciplinary research project aimed at realising the potential for digital technologies to transform the lives of people who are socially excluded. To date the main thrust of UK and European policy regarding an inclusive information society has focused on increasing the uptake of ICT (the internet, broadband, etc.) and significant progress in this respect has been made in the UK. However, less emphasis has been placed on how technology is used, and in particular how technology can be used to transform lives. This is the gap that SiDE is addressing. Currently, the potential benefits of the Digital Economy are not being realised by all members of society; it is recognised that digital exclusion mirrors many aspects of more general social exclusion. That is, not just poverty, but the "mutually reinforcing" consequences of citizens enduring unemployment, discrimination, poor housing, crime, bad heath and family breakdown. iDE is focussing on four activities where digital technologies can deliver major social benefits: Connected Community & Community, Accessibility, Inclusive Transport, and the Creative Industries. An interdisciplinary approach is essential for the work to have a real impact, and so these activities are being investigated from the research perspectives of technology, society, business and the user. Our research is highly user-driven, and we are building a carefully profiled pool of 3000 individuals to help formulate our research strategy and evaluate its results. Many user pool members are older adults who have needs as technology novices as well as issues of acquired disability associated with ageing. Others represent disabled users, having vision, hearing, mobility, cognitive processing, or literacy issues that serve to limit their access to much of today's digital economy. While recognising the different needs and concerns of these users, our methodologies seek to bring out commonalities through genuinely interactive and i. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Integrantes: Andreia Margarida Batista Custódio Cavaco - Integrante / Paul Watson - Coordenador / Patrick Olivier - Integrante / Peter Wright - Integrante / Aad van Moorsel - Integrante / Vicki L. Histology, immunocytochemistry and qRT-PCR analysis of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., post-smolts following infection with infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV), Descrição: Infectious pancreatic necrosis (IPN) is a very serious viral disease in terms of its impact on production of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., fry and post-smolts. Post-smolts of Atlantic salmon were injected with infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) and cohabited with naive fish to produce natural infection. Cohabitant fish were sampled every 2 days, up to day 36 post-infection (p.i.). From 90 cohabitant fish, 11 (12.2%) were positive by immunohistochemistry (IHC).. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Alunos envolvidos: Graduação: (1) / Mestrado acadêmico: (1) . , Integrantes: Andreia Margarida Batista Custódio Cavaco - Integrante / Anthony E Ellis - Integrante / Alan Petrie - Integrante / Keith Lockhart - Integrante / Mike Snow - Integrante / Bertrand Collet - Integrante., Financiador(es): European Union Framework Programme 6 - Auxílio financeiro., Número de produções C, T & A: 1
