  TRANSPORTE IÓNICO , ECTO-ATPases e DROGAS ANTIPARASITÁRIAS EM SISTEMAS BIOLOGICOS, Descrição: 1- Determinar os mecanismos envolvidos na homeostase de Ca2+ e H+ em trypanossomatídeos e a participação desses íons nos processos de infecção, mudanças de morfologia, e reprodução. É de interesse identificar os mecanismos de liberação e captação de Ca2+ assim como efeitos de drogas sobre os níveis intracelulares do íon.   Mecanismos bioquímicos envolvidos na infecção por Leishmania: relação parasito-hospedeiro, Descrição: Leishmanioses formam um grupo de doenças com largo espectro de manifestações clínicas. Os casos de leishmaniose no estado do Rio de Janeiro são associados principalmente a L. braziliensis. Neste projeto estamos visando o estudo muldisciplinar da L. braziliensis focando nossos esforços nos mecanismos de transdução de sinal, balanço e regulação energética, bem como nos mecanismos motores envolvidos na formação do fagossomo e na motilidade do parasito, durante a interação com o hospedeiro. Neste contexto pretendemos avaliar a importância da atividade ecto-ATPásica nos processos de crescimento e invasão de macrófagos pelo parasito. Outro aspecto a ser abordado neste trabalho será o impacto da proteína CK2, não só sobre as proteínas provenientes do parasito, mas também sobre as proteínas da célula hospedeira. Além dos estudos voltados para o metabolismo e sinalização celular do parasito e na relação parasito-hospedeiro, estamos visando o estudo de proteínas motoras através de técnicas de biologia molecular e celular. O principal motor molecular a ser estudado será a miosina e seu papel sobre o rearranjo estrutural do parasito, bem como o papel desta proteína na célula hospedeira (macrófago) durante o processo de infecção.
