John Paul McTague

Formado em Engenharia Florestal na Syracuse University (1974), com um semestre especial na Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1973), fez mestrado em Economia Florestal na Yale University (1976) e doutorado na University of Georgia em Biometria Florestal (1985). Foi gerente de pesquisa de crescimento e produção da Rayonier, Inc entre 2007 - 2018, uma empresa de produtos florestais na Flórida. Foi também gerente do setor de biometria das pesquisas de recursos florestais na International Paper, Inc. (1998-2004). Tem dezoito anos de experiência na indústria de papel e celulose, sendo que cinco destes anos (1981-1985) foram passados na Olinkraft, Ltda em Santa Catarina, Brasil. Foi professor de biometria florestal na Northern Arizona University (1985-1997), aonde o conselho da Escola de Florestas aprovou sua promoção a professor titular. Atuou como professor colaborador em diversas universidades e, ainda hoje, colabora na University of Georgia e North Carolina State University. Foi premiado com bolsas Fulbright em duas diferentes ocasiões, quando então foi docente da USP: professor e pesquisador sênior em 1989 e MS-6 em 1996. Em 2019, atua como Professor Visitante Estrangeiro na Universidade Federal de Lavras. Fez diversos trabalhos de consultoria (1985-1997) e foi sócio em uma firma de investimentos florestais (2004-2007). Hoje, é gerente de sua própria empresa de consultoria, Southern Cross Biometrics, LLC, localizada em Fernandina Beach, Flórida, EUA. Sua publicação, 'New and composite point sampling estimates' (2010), foi considerado um método inovativo de amostragem florestal.
