David Perpiñán

Médico veterinário formado pela Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) (2000). Mestre em Medicina e Cirurgia de Animais (UAB, 2003), estudando hematologia de cágados de vida livre. Diplomado Europeu em Medicina Zoológica, na especialidade de Herpetologia (European College of Zoological Medicine). Atualmente está concluindo o doutorado sobre Doenças Virais em Ferrets. Trabalhou no Zoológico de Omaha (Nebraska, EUA), Zoológico Loro Parque (Tenerife, Espanha), e nas Universidades de Barcelona (Espanha) e da Geórgia (EUA), além de diversas clínicas veterinárias na Espanha e Inglaterra. Vasta experiência nas áreas de medicina de animais selvagens, exóticos, e de zoológico. Publicou mais de 100 artigos científicos, vários livros, e já deu palestras em diversos países da Europa e da América, sobre os seguintes temas: medicina de animais exóticos, selvagens e de zoológico. Tem experiência e grande interesse em trabalho clínico, investigação e ensino.

- Descrição do trabalho: supervisão de 6 pessoas (2 veterinários, 2 auxiliares de veterinária, 2 biólogas/técnicas de laboratório) encarregadas de cuidar da saúde de uma coleção de animal composta por um grande número de aves psitácidas (cerca de 3500 indivíduos de 350 espécies e subespécies diferentes) e mamíferos marinhos (7 orcas, 10 golfinhos, 10 leões marinhos). A coleção também se constituía por um aquário, e uma menor coleção de outras espécies de aves, répteis e mamíferos (gorilas, chimpanzés, tigres, etc). Algumas tarefas deste trabalho consistíam em: seleção e formação de pessoal, instauração de um programa médico informatizado (MedARKS), colaboração na manutenção e inventário e animais (ARKS), construção de um novo laboratório (para análises clínicas, controle de qualidade de água e provas genéticas), busca de novos produtos e fármacos úteis e rentáveis para a clínica, desenvolvimento de projetos de investigação, supervisão de todo o trabalho clínico e laboratorial, e responsabilidade primária no trabalho clínico com mamíferos marinhos e terrestres.
