Possui graduação e mestrado em Geologia, Paleontologia e Botânica pela Eberhard-Karls Universität Tübingen (1984) e doutorado em Geologia e Paleontologia pela Eberhard-Karls Universität Tübingen (1988). Habilitação (Dr. habil.) e a venia legendi (PD Privat Dozent) em Geologia,Paleobioqímica e Paleontologia pela Christian-Albrechts Universität Kiel (1998). Professor visitante da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2000/1 e 2002). 2002-2004: docente livre do Christian-Albrechts Universität Kiel e Leibniz-Institut für Meereswissenschaften (IFM-GEOMAR), Kiel. Outras atividades: 1988-2004: Coordenador dos Laboratórios o GEOMAR, 1993-1998: Membro de GEOMAR-Conselho,1999-2000: Coordenador de EU-Programma Sokrates/Erasmus em Kiel (intercambio de estudantes), 2000: Organização de Conferência Dino 2000 - Interdisciplinary Conference on Fossil and Living Dinoflagellates, Kiel Alemanha. 2003-2011: Consultoria em bioestratigrafia, stratigrafia sismica, e paleoecologia, para Servico Geologico da Alemanha e para companias de energia electrica alternativa. Atualmente é professor da UFOPA (Instituto de Engenharia e Geociencias) - Universidade Federal do Oeste do Pará em Santarém. Tenho experiência na área de geociências e oceanografia com various expedições com navios oceanograficos com ênfase paleontologia estratigráfica, paleoecologia, micropaleontologia, palinologia, paleobioquímica e influência de clima na paleoambientais.
