Structural Health Monitoring of wind turbine blades made of composites, Descrição: The behavior of Lamb Waves (Surface Waves) for thin composite plates is well known. The underlying physics of these waves are being used in the field of Structural Health Monitoring, to access the existence, the location and the size of damages on aerospace and composite structures overall, including wind turbine blades. However, no thorough study was made regarding the effect of the high curvature to thickness ration in the leading edge of those structures. This characteristic changes the Lamb Waves and, hence, the algorithms for accessing damage need to account for that. This work investigates the expected changes on the Lamb Waves for specific glass fiber reinforced polymer skins for many values of curvature to thickness on the leading edge, showing trends that can be used on future modifications of the algorithm for structural health monitoring of those structures. This study will be done through both experimental and numerical analysis.. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Alunos envolvidos: Graduação: (1) / Doutorado: (2) . , Integrantes: Mohammad Malekan - Integrante / Guilherme André Santana - Integrante / Carlos Alberto Cimini - Coordenador / LÁZARO VALENTIM DONADON - Integrante / Alexandre Martins Araújo - Integrante.

Fracture Analysis of a Restored Premolar Tooth using Finite Element Method, Descrição: The term cracked tooth syndrome refers to an incomplete fracture of a vital posterior tooth that involves the dentin and occasionally extends into the pulp. There is a very limited number of publications trying to model dentin crack growth using numerical techniques. In this research, a finite element based technique will be used to simulate crack initiation in restored teeth, incorporating a constitutive model developed for brittle materials and formulated to consider damage. The first step for the analysis is the development of a 3D geometric model to serve as the basis for a finite element analysis. The geometric model was based on CT data obtained from a patient. A special finite element technique, named mesh fragmentation technique, will be used to model and analyze the behavior of the premolar tooth.. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Alunos envolvidos: Mestrado acadêmico: (1) Doutorado: (2) . , Integrantes: Mohammad Malekan - Integrante / Maryam Ramezani - Integrante / Estevam Barbosa de Las Casas - Coordenador / Osvaldo Luis Manzoli - Integrante / Cláudia M. Crack propagation modeling in plane structures using two-scale generalized/extended finite element method, Descrição: A numerical implementation of generalized/extended finite element method (G/XFEM) to analyze a fractured plate structure is investigated in this work. One of the most important parameters in fracture mechanics is the determination of the crack propagation direction under mixed mode conditions. In the concept of linear elastic fracture mechanics, the stress intensity factor can be used to either determine the crack propagation direction or propagation status, i.e. the crack can start to propagate or not. This research project deals with an object-oriented based fracture analysis of two-dimensional/Reissner-Mindlin problems using both classical and two-scale G/XFEM methodologies.. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Alunos envolvidos: Doutorado: (1) . , Integrantes: Mohammad Malekan - Integrante / Felicio Bruzzi Barros - Coordenador.
