Maziar Montazerian

Possui graduação em Industrial Metallurgy - Tehran University (2005), mestrado em Materials Science Engineering - Tarbiat Modares University (2008) e doutorado em bioactive glasses and glass-ceramics - Iran University of Science and Technology (2015). Tem 4 anos de experiência em pesquisa de pós-doutorado e mais de 4 anos de experiência de trabalho nas indústrias de revestimentos cerâmicos.Tem experiência na área de Engenharia de Materiais e Metalúrgica, com ênfase em Cerâmicos, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Bioactive glasses, Glass-ceramics, Glass Science, Dental Materials, Nucleation and Crystallization. SHORT BIOGRAPHY: My academic background and four years of industrial working experience as a ceramic/glass engineer have prepared me to be a researcher and instructor. My doctoral dissertation was conducted in Iran and Brazil through the support of The World Academy of Science. We examined the effects of zirconia addition on the biological and mechanical properties of gel-derived bioactive glass-ceramics. In our research, we developed a glass-ceramic in which both radiopacity and bioactivity requirements were explicitly satisfied. Then, the areas that interest me for my future research stem from my goal of developing improved models and methods for design, evaluation, and upgrade of biomaterials, including bio-glasses and dental glass-ceramics. For example, one of the materials that we have recently developed is a novel enstatite-zirconia glass-ceramic for biomedical applications. My research also encompasses tests, improvement, or development of nucleation and growth models for glasses. We have published 16 research articles, 8 review papers, 3 invited book chapters, and more than 20 national publications. I have also presented 10 oral talks at international conferences. Some of our papers were published in highly prestigious journals such as Chemical Reviews (JIF=52.7), International Materials Review (JIF=14.4), Acta Biomaterialia (JIF=7.2) and JACerS (JIF=3.5). I have also reviewed more than 140 papers for 24 international journals! Furthermore, I led the role of a lecturer in several workshops in the ceramic tile industry, such as digital printing technology and defect diagnosis and therapy. I found that my experience as an engineer provided me with a broad view that is useful in assisting researchers with scientific and industrial projects. These experiences have also built my confidence and sparked an interest in teaching and research. I was a recipient of a Ph.D. scholarship from The World Academy of Science (TWAS) and a post-doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).     Desenvolvimento e caracterização de vitrocerâmicos bioativos e tenazes, Projeto certificado pelo(a) coordenador(a) Edgar Dutra Zanotto em 13/07/2021., Descrição: A presente projeto tem como objetivo o desenvolvimento de um projeto de pós-doutorado na área multidisciplinar de biomateriais, em particular em bio-vitrocerâmicas. Uma revisão de literatura exaustiva realizada pelo candidato revela que a tenacidade à fratura dos vitrocerâmicos bioativos comerciais (1-2 MPa.m1/2) ainda está abaixo dos padrões desejados, e deve ser melhorada para ficar próxima a do osso cortical humano (2-12 MPa.m1/2). Além disso, todos os mecanismos de tenacidade ainda não foram ativados em vitrocerâmicos. E há várias vias de tenacificação, tais como, transformações de fases, ponteamento e micro fissuras, que podem ser estimuladas por cristalização controlada de diferentes cristais com uma variedade de morfologias e estruturas. Por exemplo, cristais de silicatos em cadeia, tais como enstatite, wollastonite, diopside, canasite, etc. têm morfologia alongada em forma de agulhas, que poderia reforçar a vitrocerâmica.     ZrO2 doped mesoporous bio-glaesses for drug delivery, Descrição: Bioactive glasses containing ZrO2 have radiopaque property. Radiopacity is an essential feature of bioactive materials that allows easy follow-up of the treated patient under radiographic control. In this research, we synthesized 61.2SiO2-24.3CaO-4P2O5-10ZrO2 (mol%) via a simple sol-gel route. The sufficient heat treatment for converting dried gels into the glasses was determined using thermo-gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The structure of dried gels and glasses were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Specific surface area, pore volume, pore size and pore size distribution were evaluated by N2 adsorption/desorption technique and employing multipoint Brumauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) methods. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results were used to calculate the overall crystallization activation energy. Sol-gel process consisted of hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), triethyl phosphate (TEP), Ca(NO3)2.4H2O and ZrO(NO3)2.XH2O. Nitric acid was used to accelerate the hydrolysis step. The optimum H2O/TEOS+TEP ratio and nitric acid concentration were 15 and 0.1 M, respectively. Structural analysis by NMR and FTIR revealed that glasses containing ZrO2 presents an amorphous structure in which Zr acts as a glass former and retards the crystallization of apatite. N2 absorption/desorption analysis exposed that the synthesized glasses are mesoporouse with average surface area and pore size of 133-160 m2/g and 2-4 nm, respectively. Additionally, upon adequate heat treatment at 1000 °C, the gel-glass containing ZrO2 converted into an apatite-wollastonite-zirconia glass-ceramic.     ZrO2 toughened mica and mica-apatite glass-ceramics, Descrição: Mica glass-ceramic composites toughened by 5, 10 and 15 wt.% partially stabilized zirconia (Y-PSZ) were prepared via pressureless sintering. Sinterability of composites was investigated in the temperature range of 1060-1170 °C using soaking time of 240 min. The sintered specimens were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) methods. The results revealed that during sintering, the dissolution of Y-PSZ occurred in the residual glass which caused the formation of zircon and transformation of tetragonal to monoclinic zirconia. Mechanical properties of the sintered samples such as bending strength, Vickers micro hardness and fracture toughness were also investigated. Measurements showed that addition of 15 wt.% ZrO2 to the mica glass-ceramic matrix increased the bending strength from 50.91 10.50 to 132.47 13.80 MPa. Fracture toughness was also improved up to 1.37 0.14 MPam1/2. Mica-apatite glass-ceramic with appropriate properties was developed using a new approach, in which a mixture of two frits (viz. fluoro-mica glass and a glass in the CaO-SiO2-P2O5-MgO system) was sintered via pressureless viscous flow. The microstructural studies and the formation of fluorapatite revealed that the excessive mutual diffusion of the two frits at the glass-glass interfaces and/or unifying of them occur. The mechanical properties of fabricated mica-apatite glass-ceramic improved in comparison with mica glass-ceramic. Additionally, mica-apatite glass-ceramic was reinforced with 5, 10 and 15 wt.% partially stabilized zirconia (Y-PSZ). The composites were prepared via pressureless sintering, which was performed on the mixtures of zirconia particulates and two above-mentioned frits. The results showed that Y-PSZ dissolved in the residual glass and caused the formation of prismatic zircon crystals (ZrSiO4) precipitated during the final stage of sintering. Spherical zirconia particles were also detected.     Antibacterial and Self-cleaning Tiles, Descrição: In Apadana Ceram Co., we designed self-cleaning and antibacterial coating based on TiO2 synthesized by sol-gel on commercial unglazed ceramic tiles for building covers. The synthesis strategy was based on hydrolysis and condensation of Ti-isopropoxide. From the microstructure and surface characteristic analysis for different conditions and heat-treating temperatures, we concluded that the coating is composed of sintered TiO2 particles. The TiO2 also enhanced the water contact angle and inactivation of Escherichia coli under UV light.     Crater Defect in Tile Industry, Descrição: In order to investigate the problem and speculate the origin of the crater defect in the tile industry, different stages of glaze and engobe applications on randomly selected samples were examined. At first, it was observed that the factory personnel pre-fired the raw porcelain body twice in an oven and then glazed it. Even the degree of defect in this sample was increased. Then the raw body was fired without glaze, which after firing, fewer amounts of defects were observed. An observation by scanning electron microscope indicated the existence of a defect in the engobe. Due to the dimensions of the defect and its shape and the frequency of its distribution in the tile and the results of the previous electron microscope, it seemed that a reaction occurs between the glaze-engobe-body, the temperature of this reaction is close to the glaze firing temperature.. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Desenvolvimento. , Integrantes: Maziar Montazerian - Coordenador / M.     Restorative welding of ductile cast iron, Descrição: In this project, the defects of large parts cast with ductile iron were repaired by the manual arc welding method. Iron and nickel electrodes were used in 32 conditions and the area affected by welding heat (HAZ) was examined in these 32 welding conditions by an optical microscope and Rockwell C hardness tester. Welding conditions included: preheating temperature, electrode type, voltage and welding current.
