Karen Ann Kainer

Possui graduação em Engenheira Florestal pela Stephen F. Austin State University (1983), Mestrado (1990) e Doutorado (1997) em Recursos Florestais e Conservação pela University of Florida. Atualmente é Professora Associada da Escola de Recursos Florestais e o Centro de Estudos Latinoamericanos da University of Florida. Tem experiência na área de Recursos Florestais e Engenharia Florestal, com ênfase em recursos florestais tropicais, manejo florestal comunitario, ecologia e manejo da castanheira (Bertholletia excelsa).

Como voluntária dos Corpos de Paz dos Estados Unidos, em Villa Florida, Paraguai; atuei como extensionista e co-gerente do Projeto de Madeira como Combustível (Fuelwood Project). No período de 1983 a 1985 as atividades exercidas foram: (1) juntamente com parceiros paraguaios, estabelecer e gerenciar um viveiro de espécies arbórease um lote municipial de 20 ha de árvores para uso como combustível ; (2) prover assistência técnica em silvicutura e agroflorestas para membros de comunidades e produtores.
