    CH4 emission from fen peatland managed by Short Rotation Coppice (SRC), Descrição: Greenhouse gases from human activities are the most significant driver of observed climate change since the mid-20th century. As greenhouse gas emissions from human activities increase, they build up in the atmosphere and warm the climate, leading to many other changes around the world?in the atmosphere, on land, and in the oceans. Peatlands are one of the areas which are suffering with human activities; Natural peatlands are considered to be the only terrestrial ecosystems which provide a continuous long-term underground co2 sink. (Drosler et al 2008). Some peatlands have been drained for forestry, managed by short rotation coppice, where some kinds of trees are planted to be used in the future as a source of energy because its biomass. Consequently, peatland contribution to the fixation of greenhouse gases has been reduced and some areas are becoming a hotspot for these gases emission. Our study addressed the question: The rate of emission of methane gases from a fen peatland managed by Short Rotation Coppice. The study was conducted in a short rotation coppice at a southern German fen peatland. Emissions of CH 4 were measured using the closed chamber method at four unploughed sites (2, 5, 8 and 10) and two ploughed sites (3 and 6), where sites 2, 3 and 8 are composed by alder trees and 5, 6 and 10 by poplar trees.
