  As variações dos sistemas vegetais durante o tempo e a evolução dos biomas terrestres, Projeto certificado pelo(a) coordenador(a) André Jasper em 24/08/2014., Descrição: Ver item "Observação Importante" nos demais projetos. Trata-se do levantamento das ocorrências de carvão vegetal (charcoal) macroscópico em diferentes associações vegetais (fósseis e atuais) para definição da ocorrência de incêndios vegetacionais durante o tempo. Para que seja possível a compreensão do impacto das ações vinculadas ao chamado desenvolvimento humano? sobre o meio, é fundamental considerar a premissa de que os sistemas não são estáveis, sendo sujeitos a variações antrópicas e, principalmente, naturais. A compreensão destas dinâmicas ambientais passa, invariavelmente, pela análise de suas características básicas, avaliadas pelos estudos vinculados aos diferentes biomas. Concomitantemente, os estudos dos biomas terrestres têm se voltado cada vez mais aos processos ambientais envolvidos na sua formação, manutenção e estabilidade, gerando um gradativo aumento da importância das discussões que tentam esclarecer a evolução dos mesmos durante o tempo em busca da avaliação de sua gênese. Um dos elementos utilizados nestas análises é o acompanhamento das variações florísticas ocorridas, tendo em vista que as plantas são excelentes marcadores ambientais. Variações da morfologia foliar, adaptações de estruturas reprodutivas e sistemas de condução de seiva, além de relações ecológicas (de fundo natural ou antrópico) tornam-se, ferramenta fundamental para esses estudos. Dentre as formas de avaliar estes processos, destaca-se o estudo do registro de carvão vegetal macroscópico, o qual permite a interpretação do passado e o estabelecimento de parâmetros de variação ambiental, atuais e futuros.
