Renato Amaral Minamisawa

Bacharel em física medica pela Universidade de Sao Paulo, mestre em física pelo Center for Irradiation of Materials na Alabama A&M University (EUA), e doutor "Magna Cum Laude" em física pela RWTH Aachen University (Alemanha) tendo realizado pesquisa no Julich Research Center. Tem experiência na área de física, com ênfase em física das radiações, física de materiais, e física de nano componentes semicondutores atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: interacoes das radiacoes com a materia, design e desenvolvimento de instrumentacao cientifica, tecnologia de aceleradores de partículas de baixa e alta energias, metodos de analise e sintese de nanoestruturas, deposicao de filmes finos, desenvolvimento de dispositivos termoeletricos nanoestruturados, mebranas polimericas nanoporosas, carbono vítreo modificado, novos high-k dieletricos, nanowire MOSFETs, strained Si/SiGe MOSFETs e band-to-band tunneling FETs. No presente, trabalha com nanowire MOSFETs, nanowire ISFETs biosensors e novos materias e conceitos para nanoeleronica e fotonica.

    MeV Ion Beam fabrication of Nanopores in thin films membranes, Descrição: The membrane technologies market has risen from $363 million dollars in 1987 to $1.5 billion by 2006. Porous membranes having open micro and nanosized pores, thereby importing permeability, are applied in selective filtration (gas separation, water filtration, soil columns (flow cells)), synthesis of nanostructures, coulter counting, chromatography, masks, chemical and biological detectors, bioengineering and molecular electronics. In this project, Teflon membranes of PFA, FEP and PTFE materials are fabricated using ion beam technology to sculpt the pores at the micro and nano scales. These materials have the lowest friction coefficient known and are chemically inert, which make then applicable in diverse industrial applications. We have developed an in house feedback ion beam controlled system to monitor the pores formation. Results have shown that the ion beam processing of polymers is an efficient, fast and unique method to produce well shaped Teflon membranes when compared with alternative methods.     Development of high efficienty thermoelectric devices, Descrição: Nowadays, thermoelectric material technology and performance is under dynamic development propelled by intense research aimed at device application covering the fields of energy converters, thermoelectric coolers/heat pumps (PELTIER devices), and thermal sensors. In this project, multilayered films of different materials are grown by Ion Beam Assisted Deposition and post bombarded using MeV ion beam for applications in thermoelectric devices. The efficiency of thermoelectric materials is defined by a figure of merit in which big values of Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity as well as small values of thermal conductivity are desired. The multilayered structure increases the phonon scattering in the interfaces, thus decreasing the thermal conductivity, while the ion bombardment induces the nucleation of nanocrystals inside the material, deforming the Fermi levels of energy to increase the electrical conductivity. The thermal conductivity is measured using the 3w method in a homemade system (Holland/Minamisawa) while the Seebeck coefficient and the electrical conductivity are measure from adaptations of comercially availables equipments. Preliminary experiments have shown significantly improvements in the thermoelectric devices as promising materials for power generation.     High resistant Polymeric Carbon nanocomposites, Descrição: Polymeric Carbon (PC) has properties of high electrical conductivity, strength with exceptional hardness and resistance to thermal shock that make it unique and much researched for numerous applications in biocompatible prostheses, heart valves, electrodes, crucibles, heater exchanges, space probe coating, body armor and so forth. This project is aimed to improve the PC properties by doping it with Carbon Nanotubes (CNT), SiC and Alumina nanoparticles. The fabrication process is held in unique homemade built furnaces located in the Center for Irradiation of Materials (AAMU) and is described in several publications. Results have been demonstrated an increase of the Young s modulus of the material as well as of the fracture point of PC doped with the nanostructures.
