  Strengthening Responses to Dementia in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (STRiDE) - Fortalecendo Respostas a Demência em Países de Baixo e Médio Poder Econômico, Descrição: Projeto em parceria com a London School of Economics, que lidera o projeto. O projeto está sendo realizado em 8 países, um deles é o Brasil, e conta com parceria da Febraz (Federação Brasileira de Associações de Alzheimer) e o apoio dentro do seu comitê consultivo no Brasil representantes da OPAS e do Ministério da Saúde, entre outros.. Objetivo geral: Contribuir para a melhora do cuidado, tratamento e suporte para que: 1. Pessoas com demência possam viver bem. 2. Familiares e outros cuidadores não arquem com custos excessivos do cuidado, arriscando ficarem em situação de vulnerabilidade econômica e social ou terem sua própria saúde afetada.   The Development and Validation of the ?Dementia Quality of Life Scale for Older Family Carers? (DQoL-OC), Descrição: Significant proportion of the increasing older population will develop dementia, a chronic syndrome that leads to a progressive state of dependence for the performance of daily activities and causes a huge impact upon the sufferers and family members. Sons, daughters, and often spouses, themselves usually older persons, assume the task of caring, supervising or developing for them what they can no longer develop by themselves any more. These family carers are consequently subjected to high levels of stress, burden, psychological and physical distress, commonly resulting from the demanding caring and lack of support, which impacts on their quality of life (QoL). Quality of life is therefore directly associated with health and well-being of family carers and its adequate assessment and interventions aiming its improvement may lead to better psychological and physical health. However, perceptions and needs regarding QoL vary between young and older people and different types of instruments containing particular dimensions are available to each specific age group in the general population. In caring context, the increasing the number of older people involved with the care for dependent family members with dementia and the higher impact of this task in physical, mental, economic and social dimensions, as well as their specific needs when compared to youngers are unwell established in the literature. Furthermore, QoL instruments have been created and applied to mixed aged groups of carers, regardless of the specific needs and perceptions of older carers. Therefore, this Doctoral research aims to fill this gap. Aim: In a sequential mixed-methods research, the ?Huntington?s Disease Quality of Life Scale for Carers? (HDQoL-C) will be adapted and validated with the aim of developing a disease specific scale to assess the QoL of older family carers of people with dementia being cared for at home and living in the United Kingdom (UK): The ?Dementia Quality of Life Battery for Older Family Carers? (DQoL-OC). Method: A systematic literature review was performed as a first strand of the qualitative phase and the results are presented in this report. Focus groups will be performed to systematically investigate the views and perspectives of older family carers? QoL in the dementia caring context, the relevance of items of the HDQoL-C and of the WHO QoL construct to their reality. The HDQoL-C will be adapted based on these findings and on the opinions of a panel of experts. A pre-test and pilot study will be developed in order to assess the validity and reliability of the preliminary version of the DQoL-OC. Discussion: It is anticipated that the DQoL-OC will be a unique and specific instrument that reflects the views and needs in QoL of older family carers, which may allow researchers, health and social professionals to quantify and qualify the experience of providing care in older age, for the implementation and evaluation of therapeutic interventions with these people.   Expectativa de Suporte para o Cuidado em Idosos da comunidade: Dados do FIBRA Campinas (SP), Descrição: A expectativa de suporte para o cuidado é a crença que o idoso tem de que pessoas próximas proverão a assistência futura a ele caso haja necessidade, aliviando o estresse em situação de crise, podendo inibir o desenvolvimento de doenças e exercer um papel positivo em sua recuperação. Esta pesquisa teve por objetivos comparar a expectativa de suporte para o cuidado, arranjo de moradia e variáveis relacionadas à saúde, em função de gênero e faixa etária de idosos da comunidade e identificar as variáveis associadas à ausência de expectativa de suporte para o cuidado em idosos da comunidade. Foi realizada a partir dos dados da Rede de Pesquisa sobre Fragilidade em Idosos Brasileiros (Rede FIBRA), utilizando dados da cidade de Campinas-SP (n=671). Foram selecionadas variáveis sociodemográficas (gênero, idade e arranjo de moradia), variáveis relacionadas à saúde (doenças auto-relatadas, independência funcional, saúde percebida e fragilidade) e expectativa de suporte para o cuidado para a realização de ABVD?s e AIVD?s. Foi realizada análise descritiva e, por meio dos testes Qui-Quadrado ou exato de Fisher, análise de comparação das principais variáveis categóricas entre gênero, faixa etária e expectativa suporte para o cuidado. Para estudar os fatores associados com a ausência de expectativa de suporte para o cuidado foi utilizada a análise de regressão logística univariada e multivariada, com critério Stepwise de seleção de variáveis.   Qualidade de vida de cuidadores de idosos com transtornos mentais: parâmetros associados à sobrecarga do cuidador e à funcionalidade do idoso, Descrição: O estudo tem o objetivo de descrever os fatores que interferem na qualidade de vida entre cuidadores de idosos com demência conforme a capacidade funcional dos pacientes, atendidos no Ambulatório de Geriatria de um Hospital Universitário de Campinas-SP. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório descritivo e farão parte da população-alvo os indivíduos que comparecerem ao serviço para a\companhar consulta médica do seu familiar ou participar do Grupo de apoio a familiares cuidadores de idosos com alterações neuropsiquiátricas. A coleta de dados acontecerá nos dias em que houver reunião desses cuidadores ou consulta do idoso, no serviço hospitalar escolhido.
