Cristian Pérez Granados

During the last year (2020) I worked as postdoctoral researcher (Fellowship INCT- MCTIC/ CNPq/CAPES/FAPs no. 16/2014) within the Computational Bioacoustics Research Unit (INAU, Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso). My studies were focused on the use of automated sound recorders, couples with automated signal recognition software, in oder to improve our understanding about the seasonality in the Brazilian Pantanal and increase our knowledge about the ecology and vocal activity of different anurans and birds species. During 2017-2018 I worked as a Biologist in the Terrestrial Ecology Group (TEG-UAM), Autonomos University of Madrid, within an European Project to ensure the conservation of the Dupont?s lark (Chersophilus duponti) in Europe. My main interests are focused on bird conservation and in the use of automated recorders for wildlife monitoring. I have worked with a large number of steppe-bird species (Dupont?s lark, Skylark, Montagu?s harrier, Lesser kestrel), tropical birds (Undulated Tinamou, Little Nightjar, Common Pauraque) and tropical anurans (Elachistocleis matogrosso, Pseudis platensis) by using a wide range of monitoring systems (mist-netting, point-counts, radiotracking, mapping method, automated recorders). In the last years I have focused my studies on bioacoustics, assessing the function of bird dawn choruses, effect of habitat fragmentation on birdsong, describing a protocol for bird monitoring by using automated recorders, or describing the diel and seasonal patterns of vocal activity of different birds and anuran species. My long-term career objective is to participate actively in the development of new techniques for remote wildlife monitoring to provide solutions to conservation biology problems and improve the knowledge on wildlife distribution patterns. I earned a B.S. in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2009, Madrid, Spain), a Masters in Conservation Biology from the Universidad Complutense (2010, Madrid, Spain) and a Ph.D in Conservation and Restoration of Ecosystems at the Alicante University (2016), which was awarded with the Extraordinary Doctorade Award (December of 2019).
