Jesus Calvo-Castro

Jesus Calvo Castro é professor de química farmacêutica na Universidade de Hertfordshire (Hatfield, Inglaterra). A sua experiência e interesses em pesquisa estão em duas áreas diferentes, mas que compartilham semelhanças. A primeira delas está relacionada ao desenvolvimento de novos materiais inteligentes orgânicos com aplicações optoelectrónicas, tanto em materiais de transferência de carga em uma e duas dimensões, quanto para obtenção contraste de fluorescência específico de organelas in vitro, e polímeros de interesse tecnológico. A segunda área principal de pesquisa trata-se do desenvolvimento de novas técnicas para a deteção e caracterização de moléculas de baixo peso molecular com interesse tecnológico, por meio da utilização de técnicas de espectroscopia. Esta área de pesquisa também inclui a utilização de técnicas computacionais, tanto de mecânica quântica) e quimiometría, quanto de desenhos experimentais. Foi palestrante convidado de instituições de renome, como a Comissão Europeia, Nações Unidas e Interpol para abordar assuntos relevantes e com aplicações atuais. Obteve financiamento de importantes agências de fomento, como a Royal Society of Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund, Animal Free Research UK, Chemical Structure Association e pelo Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico do Brasil.
