Periasamy Kaliappan MANOHARAN

Manoharan is a research physicist, presently the visiting professor at the Radio Astronomy Center, National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). His research includes multi-wavelength studies of solar eruptions, solar activity, acceleration of the solar wind, the physics of the interplanetary medium, and pulsars. He developed a unique method to determine the speed and other physical properties of the solar wind using interplanetary scintillation (IPS) measurements from a single radio telescope and this technique is being used at several international observatories. Manoharan has been motivating young students through lectures, interaction and projects, through various science fora. He has guided 9 Ph.Ds., 7 M.Phil., and a large number of M.Sc. students. He led the team of scientific and engineering personnel involved in the operational and maintenance aspects of the ?Ooty Radio Telescope? and otherobservational facilities located at the Radio Astronomy Centre. Manoharan has been collaborating with the international space weather study groups in USA, Mexico, Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, China, etc.
