Tiejun Gu

Mr. Tiejun Gu, born on January 16, 1965, Associate Professor of English Language and Literature in the Communication University of China. His main research interests include Comparative Literature, Comparative Culture, Sinology, Film Studies and Art Theories. From 1983 to 1987, Mr. Gu attended the Research Program of Comparative Studies of World Cultures sponsored by China Culture Academy. In 2000 and 2001, Mr. Gu worked as a Visiting Scholar at Philosophy Department of Peking University and completed his research on some topics in the fields of Western Philosophy and Western Religious Philosophy. Mr. Gu obtained his MA from Peking University in 1996 majoring in World Literature and Doctor?s Degree in Radio and TV Art from Peking Normal University in 2010. As a Film Translation Professor and Practitioner, Mr. Gu has finished some research projects on film translation such as The Historical Survey of Dubbed Films of China and The Main Tasks in Film Dubbing. Among the dubbed films translated or dubbing-directed by Prof. Gu are The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Oliver Twist, The River World, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and The Twilight Man. In 1995, Mr. Gu was awarded the Han Suyin Young Translator Prize by the Translators? Association of China. In 2005, the dubbed film King Arthur, translated by Gu Tiejun, won The Ornamental Award, a national film prize of China. From April 2013, Prof. Gu has been working as the Chinese Director in the Confucius Institute at UFRGS, Brazil, the main tasks of which is to provide Chinese language teaching and organize Chinese cultural activities for the local Brazilians.
