Luc Deneire

LUC DENEIRE (luc. deneire@unice.fr) received his Engineer degree in electronics from the University of Liege, Belgium, in 1988, his Engineer degree in telecommunications from University of Louvain-La-Neuve in 1994, and his Ph.D. degree in signal processing from EURECOM, Sophia- Antipolis, France in 1998. He worked for IMEC, Leuven, Belgium, from 1999 to 2002. Since 2002 he has been a professor at the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, cur- rently in the Polytechnic School of the university, where he heads the Department of Electrical Engineering. He is a member of the I3S Laboratory. He is working on the design of wireless communications networks. His main interests are in the signal processing algorithms involved in, as well as on the cross-layer aspects of, mobile and cognitive networks.

    Novas Ferramentas Matemáticas de Processamento de Sinais para os Futuros Sistemas de Comunicações Multiusuários MIMO Sem Fio, Descrição: Descrição: O objetivo básico de um sistema de comunicação é prover um meio rápido e confiável de troca de informação entre dois ou mais pontos que se encontram separados fisicamente. Há diversos exemplos de tais sistemas presentes no nosso dia-a-dia, como as redes de computadores, os satélites, os sistemas de posicionamento global, a rede de telefonia fixa, as redes de televisão e os sistemas de telefonia móvel. Além do mais, nossa sociedade tornou-se extremamente dependente dos meios de comunicação, que tomaram parte importante nas relações humanas, no trabalho, na segurança e na educação. Cada vez mais é premente a necessidade de transmissão em altas taxas, principalmente devido aos serviços de multimídia. A fim de satisfazer esta necessidade e fornecer serviços mais eficientes, as técnicas de comunicação digital devem ser mais robustas e flexíveis do que aquelas presentes nos sistemas atuais. Os novos sistemas devem possuir uma excelente imunidade contra as adversidades inerentes aos meios de comunicação, as quais limitam uma transmissão em banda larga mais eficaz. A tendência dos serviços de comunicação é de serem integrados, convergindo para um sistema único. Por exemplo, a rádio difusão digital e os serviços sem fio comercial se complementarão para criar novos serviços de valor agregado, trazendo enormes benefícios tanto para os usuários finais como para os provedores desses serviços. Vemos, assim, que a contínua evolução dos sistemas de comunicação requer avanços cada vez mais rápidos, e de maior magnitude, tanto em pesquisa como em desenvolvimento.     SIGNAL, Descrição: SIGNAL in short Attach:MarieCurieActions.png The European Doctoral Program in Signal Processing (SIGNAL) has been awarded funding (about 3.000.000 Euros) for 16 PhD grants + 9 short stays) from the EU Human Resources and Mobility program. These Early Stage Research Training Host Fellowships are the most competitive EU Marie Curie Actions. SIGNAL is a consortium of four universities University of Nice, and it's Signal and Systems laboratory (I3S), the coordinator, France. University of Aalborg, and it's KOM department, Denmark University of Lisbon, and it's Technical Institute (IST), Portugal University of Leuven, and it's Signal and Systems division (ESAT), Belgium Objectives Attach:signal.png SIGNAL is aimed at providing a unified training in signal processing, focussing on the fundamental research aspects of signal processing, offering the early stage researcher an in-depth knowledge of the field, not restricted to a particular subdomain of applications. Moreover, due to the strong links of the participant in industrial projects and in various types of applications, the researchers will have the opportunity to apply their results in the real world. The research training project is structured around three main activities A PhD program , spread over the four partners. Each partner will propose 4 PhD internships as well as 1 one year stays to fund students in the final stage of their PhD. All PhDs will be based on common supervision by two host institutions, the candidate spending two years in the main institution and one year in the other one (or with any institute of the consortium, if the project needs it). PhD topics (will) may be of two natures, some being application driven, the other investigating fundamental aspect of signal processing methods and signal characteristics.     Power Aware Communications for wireless OptiMised personal Area Networks, Descrição: The PACWOMAN system will provide a low power solution for the last centimetre problem, offering local and global wireless access to the user with bit rates from 100 bps to 10 Mbps without requiring infrastructure. In this, the PACWOMAN will be a part of the 4G picture as a personal and access network. The focus of PACWOMAN will be on the global optimisation of the device, from the RF to the Network layer, and on the global optimisation of the network itself. The main objective of the PACWOMAN project is to perform the necessary research, development and optimisation on all ISO layers, enabling the design of a low-cost low-power flexible Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN).
