Paulo Alexandre Magalhães Marques

Sou graduado em Biologia Aplicada aos Recursos Animais pela Faculdade de Ciência da Universidade de Lisboa (1996) e doutorado em Biologia-Ecologia e Biossistemática pela Universidade de Lisboa (2004). Minha área central da pesquisa é em bioacústica, comportamento animal e migração todas com uma forte componente de ecologia. Eu tenho realizado pesquisas sobre o cuidado parental e sistemas de acasalamento, nomeadamente o papel do sexo em provisionamento e cuidado dos jovens em passeriformes, nomeadamente, Passer hispaniolensis. Tenho publicados alguns trabalhos sobre biologia reprodutiva, dieta dos filhote, disponibilidade de alimentos, estrutura do ninho e estrutura colônia. Recentemente minha investigação tem-se centrado na comunicação animal, tanto na perspectiva do indivíduo e como da população, incluindo a interação entre causas proximais e ultimais na evolução dos sinais acústicos e nas relações entre os sinalizadores e receptores. Meus interesses de pesquisa atualmente estão divididos em duas grandes áreas a migração e orientação de aves, e bioacústica. O foco do estudo de migração tem sido o do ciclo anual de movimentos anual de Larus fuscus e os efeitos da idade e da maturação sexual no padrão de migração. A pesquisa bioacústica é baseado no principio que as gravações sonoras têm valor para descrever e monitorar a biodiversidade, nomeadamente, o seu valor como memória acústico de habitats e ecossistemas. A investigação está agora centrado em como podemos utilizar a a bioacústica como abordagem para monitorar a biodiversidade e o papel dos arquivos de som como bibliotecas de referência para essa abordagem. Ao nível da integração da bioacústica com a descrição da biodiversidade eu coordeno o projeto Paisagens Acústicas Naturais de Portugal. Uma parte do meu esforço de pesquisa é focado no uso da bioacústica para monitorar a biodiversidade.

Paisagens acústicas naturais num mundo em mudança. Preservar o passado e construir as memórias do futuro, Descrição: Neste projecto pretendemos valorizar a herança científica produzida durante as investigações em bioacústica na segunda metade do primeiro centenário da República, focando principalmente na sua autenticidade, proveniência e confiança histórica; assegurar a sua preservação segura para as gerações futuras e criar um retrato acústico de Portugal no presente, como um legado para o futuro.
