Lawrence Kazmerski

Lawrence L. Kazmerski possui graduação em Engenharia Elétrica (B. S. E. E.) pela Universidade de Notre Dame, USA (1967), Mestrado - M. S. E. E. (1968), e Doutorado em Engenharia Elétrica (1970), ambos pela Universidade de Notre Dame. Iniciou sua carreira científica no Departamento de Engenharia Elétrica da University of Maine, com pesquisas financiadas pelo US NSF- and ERDA em finos finos para aplicações solares, tendo sido o primeiro a publicar trabalhos sobre o desenvolvimento da célula solar de filme fino de copper-indium-diselenide (CIS). Atualmente, ele é membro (eleito em 2005) da US National Academy of Engineering, Professor (Research Professor) da University of Colorado Boulder, USA, e Cientista Emérito do National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), USA, reconhecimento obtido após muitos anos como cientista no referido Laboratório (1977-2013). Kazmerski é Professor visitante convidado na University of Southampton, U.K., na Chinese Academy of Science, e na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (Brasil). Ele foi o primeiro cientista contratado para trabalhar com energia solar fotovoltaica do Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), que foi transformado no NREL, liderndo a área de caracterização de materiais e dispositivos fotovoltaicos do SERI e NREL por mais de 20 anos. Foi Diretor Executivo de Parcerias Estratégicas em Ciência e Tecnologia do NREL, 2009-2013, e diretor fundador do US National Center for Photovoltaics para o período 1999-2008. Kazmerski possui mais de 300 publicações científicas em energia solar fotovoltaica, em jornais especializados internacionais, tendo proferido mais de 200 palestras, a convite. Ele recebeu vários prêmios internacionais, incluindo World PV Prize, the IEEE William R. Cherry Award, o AVS Peter Mark Memorial Award, e o ASES Charles Greeley Abbot Award. Em 2013, Kazmerski foi agraciado com o prêmio Christopher A. Weeks Award da International Solar Energy Society (ISES0, por contribuição significativa para o desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico da energia ao redor do mundo.     Estudo de Problemas Emergentes de Confiabilidade de Módulos Fotovoltaicos: Sujidade na Superfície e Acoplamento Fotônico em Materiais Solares ( Emerging Reliability issues for Photovoltaic Modules: Surface Soiling and Fundamental Photon Coupling), Descrição: Neste projeto se propõe pesquisar aspectos especiais ligados à confiabilidade de sistemas fotovoltaicos, que apenas recentemente receberam atenção dos pesquisadores, e formam a base para o estado da arte em pesquisa e desenvolvimento na área, além de apresentarem importância conjunta para os mercados e as condições climáticas do Brasil e Estados Unidos. Os principais objetivos deste projeto estão contidos em três áreas inter-relacionadas: *Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico da Sujidade de Módulos Fotovoltaicos: Teste e Caracterização: Criar e validar protocolos de procedimentos de testes, estabelecer campos de testes conjuntos em zonas climáticas representativas, análise e caracterização físico-química de poeira e sujidades (sujeira na superfície); *Filmes e Recobrimentos para Aprimoramento de Desempenho e Manutenção: Desenvolver recobrimentos de duplo propósito, que possuam ação antiaderente permitindo redução no acúmulo de poeira e ação antirreflexo (Anti-Reflective Coating, ARC) com aumento da eficiência da absorção fotônica, *Ciência dos Materiais de Nova Geração: Projeto de Materiais: Projeto e desenvolvimento da nova geração de recobrimentos utilizando novas técnicas computacionais e de modelagem em Ciência e Engenharia de Materiais.
