  Selecting ever-smokers for a low-dose CT lung cancer screening in the Brazilian population, Descrição: Little is known about the effectiveness of using a risk-based model to select participants for a lung cancer screening in low risk settings, such the Brazilian population. We sought here to estimate at a community level the number of eligible for lung cancer screening according to the two different strategies, (i) history of 30 or more pack-years of cigarettes smoking and less than 15 years of tobacco smoking since quitted; and (ii) risk-based strategy.   SurvCan3, Descrição: Survival is increasingly recognized globally as a key measure of overall effectiveness of the health system. Previously, IARC published two compendium of survival as IARC Scientific Publications (SURVCAN volumes 1 and 256). While the first volume (Cancer Survival from Developing Countries) analysed data from 10 population-based cancer registries in 5 countries (China, Cuba, India, Philippines, and Thailand, in 1982?91), the second volume (Cancer Survival in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Central America) widened its coverage by adding Central America and Africa to include data from 27 PBCR from 14 countries (1990?2001).   The burden of brain and central nervous system cancers: a global and regional perspective, Descrição: The global burden from cancer is predicted to double within two decades, with 29 million new cases and almost 17 million deaths estimated in 2030. The International Agency for Research on Cancer, (IARC) the specialized cancer Agency of the World Health Organization, in line with specific NDC target of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, has prioritized cancer research for cancer prevention, including those cancer sites for which the underlying causes remain unknown, such as cancers of the brain and central nervous system (CNS). The impact of this project will be an increased understanding of the incidence, geographical and temporal patterns of brain and central nervous system cancers. The project is multidisciplinary and collaborative, and includes epidemiologists and medical doctors from IARC and the Medical University of Vienna (Austria), and from Santa Casa Medicine School, São Paulo (Brazil), alongside data experts from cancer registries within the Latin American region and worldwide.   A comprehensive approach to cancer survival benchmarking (SurvMark-2), Descrição: The SurvMark-2 project will benchmark survival for eight cancer sites (lung, oesophagus, stomach, ovary, colon, rectum, liver and pancreas) in six high-income countries (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway and the UK) with similarly high average levels of access to health care.   Exposições ambientais e câncer na região Serrana do Rio de Janeiro, Descrição: Este projeto de pesquisa visa investigar a associação entre exposições ambientais, assim como polimorfismos genéticos e o câncer de cérebro, de esôfago, de estômago, leucemias e linfomas, na região Serrana do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Trata-se de um estudo caso-controle de base-hospitalar em Petrópolis. Os resultados deste estudo permitirão avançar no conhecimento do impacto da exposição a pesticidas e outras exposições ambientais sobre o desenvolvimento dessas neoplasias, em uma parcela da população brasileira. Eles permitirão estimar um conjunto de exposições ambientais potencialmente associadas às neoplasias estudadas, assim como estimar sua interação com o perfil de polimorfismos genéticos da população de estudo.
