André Wilson Brotto Furtado
Andre Furtado is a Software Development Engineer in Test for Microsoft Corporation, in Redmond. He holds BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science for the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and has a PhD research on putting game development (XNA) together with software engineering (DSL Tools). Has over 40 papers, articles and tutorials published both in brazilian and international conferences, symposiums, journals, magazines and in the web. Addicted to software competitions, he is the world champion of Microsoft s Imagine Cup Japan 2005 (Office Designer Category) and Imagine Cup Korea 2007 (Embedded Development Category), winner of the first Brazilian XNA Challenge, winner of the Innovation Accelerator Workshop 2006 (sponsored by Microsoft / British Telecom), second place in the Brazilian finals of the Intel + UC Berkeley Entrepreneurship Challenge 2005 and mentor of winning brazilian teams in Imagine Cup India 2006 (2nd place in Software Design and 1st place in Interface Design). Was one of the four competitors of the worldwide 4x4 XNA Game Studio Express Challenge at the Game Developers Conference in 2007. His previous jobs included working as a programmer, architect, college instructor and also as a technical/business consultant for a local startup of which he was one of the founders. He used to be a Microsoft Student Partner Lead (until 2007), leader of the Sharp Shooters .NET user group (first .NET group in Brazil) and judge of the 2nd XNA Challenge Brazil. He is a Certified Microsoft Solutions Framework Practitioner, Microsoft Certified Professional, Certified IBM-DB2 Specialist and Sun Certified Java Programmer. Loves travelling, discovering new people and new types of beer. Has also a blog in www.afurtado.net to share some personal thoughts about game (development), software (engineering) and other subjects of our Information Era world.
