É professor pesquisador da University of Illinois e Vice-president of Research da International Sociological Association (ISA). Possui doutorado em Sociologia pela New School for Social Research (2004) Como sociólogo, suas principais áreas de interesse são: Teoria Sociológica, Movimentos Sociais e Futures Research.
