Prof. Ovidiu Constantin Baltatu, MD, PhD, é um cientista sênior, educador e líder com experiência internacional em ciências da saúde e medicina, biotecnologia e pesquisa e desenvolvimento farmacêutico.Ele ocupou posições como Decano de Biotecnologia na Universidade Khalifa, nos Emirados Árabes Unidos; Chefe de Tecnologia e Inovação no Parque Tecnológico, Centro de Saúde, Tecnologia e Inovação, no Brasil; e Diretor Sênior na The Medicines Company Ltd. (MDCO, Leipzig), na Alemanha. Como membro da Equipe Speedel, na Suíça, Ovidiu liderou a pesquisa e desenvolvimento translacional do inibidor direto da renina (Alisquireno).Sua pesquisa abrange a patofisiologia de doenças, diagnósticos, terapêuticas e prevenção. MELATONINA, FISIOLOGIA E FISIOPATOLOGIA, ESTUDOS BÁSICOS E CLÍNICOS: CARACTERIZAÇÃO DA SÍNDROME HIPOMELATONINÊMICA E O PAPEL DA REPOSIÇÃO TERAPÊUTICA COM MELATONINA, Descrição: O presente projeto Temático pretende abordar questões básicas e clínicas, tendo como tema comum a hipomelatoninemia, dividido em três grandes grupos de trabalhos. No Grupo I os projetos têm como objetivo estudar como a redução da produção de melatonina pineal interfere com alguns aspectos da fisiologia da gestação, do desenvolvimento e programação fetal e neonatal e consequentes regulações fisiológicas da prole ao longo da vida. Serão estudados, durante a gestação e lactação, na rata mães, alguns aspectos do remodelamento do pâncreas endócrino, do metabolismo hepático, neurogênese hipocampal e a síntese de melatonina pineal. Além disso, pretende-se estudar como a ausência da melatonina pineal e sua reposição terapêutica, durante a gestação e lactação, afeta a fisiologia da prole, abrangendo várias funções: metabolismo glicídico, lipidíco e energético, comportamento alimentar, função cardiovascular, e reprodutiva, em machos e fêmeas, o eixo hipotálamo-hipófise-tireóide, a plasticidade neural e a capacidade de aprendizado e memorização e sua alteração pelo exercício espontâneo ou forçado, a suscetibilidade neural à ação de drogas e toxinas e, por fim, a síntese pineal de melatonina. No Grupo II os trabalhos são clínicos e têm como objetivo caracterizar a síndrome humana da hipomelatoninemia, estudando nos pacientes antes e depois da reposição terapêutica com melatonina, vários aspectos da fisiologia e fisiopatologia, como a ritmicidade circadiana, o ciclo sono/vigília, o sistema cardiovascular, o metabolismo e estados de humor. A hipomelatoninemia será caracterizada em vários contextos clínicos: pacientes pinealectomizados (hipomelatoninemia primária) e em várias síndromes que apresentam a hipomelatoninemia secundária, como diabetes tipo 1, doença de Parkinson, doença do espectro do autismo, transtorno do humor bipolar, pacientes críticos em UTI e a fotoinibição noturna pineal em UTIs e durante a exigência de uma sessão de exercício aeróbio agudo. Dentro das temáticas dos Grupos I e II, serão estudadas, também, trabalhadoras noturnas e seus filhos gestados e gerados em condição de fotoinibição noturna.
