Jose Humberto Andrade Sobral

Engenheiro Eletrônico pela Escola Nacional de Engenharia (1966), atual UFRJ, mestrado em Ciências Espaciais pelo INPE-Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (1969) e Doutorado (PhD) em Electrical Engineering - Cornell University (1973) com um "Research Assistantship" oferecido pessoalmente pelo Prof. Carl Sagan da Universidade de Cornell. Pesquisador em Física Espacial do INPE desde 1967, em cuja instituição foi um dos pesquisadores pioneiros no campo da Física Espacial. Foi Coordenador-Geral da Área de Ciências Espaciais e Atmosféricas do INPE de 1992 a 1999, possui mais de 160 trabalhos científicos publicados em revistas especializadas internacionais com revisão editorial de alto nível. É Professor do curso de Mestrado e Doutorado do INPE em Geofísica Espacial. Desde o ano de 1973 é frequente revisor de diversos periódicos internacionais do mais alto nível. Na década de 1970, utilizando fotômetros de varredura da linha vermelha (raia 630 nm) do oxigênio atômico, detectou e identificou pela primeira vez sobre território brasileiro a ocorrência das bolhas ionosféricas (rarefações do plasma ionosférico), o que lhe rendeu, como primeiro autor, no ano de 1980 duas publicações pioneiras e mais uma no ano seguinte.Tais bolhas são o fenômeno natural mais drástico da ionosfera da região tropical. Esses trabalhos, foram os primeiros trabalhos no Brasil e no mundo sobre a ocorrência das bolhas ionosféricas sobre o território brasileiro. O sistema fotométrico que possibilitou a detecção das bolhas ionosféricas foi totalmente projetado e construído no INPE em meados dos anos 1970, coordenado por este autor com a participação dos seus pares Drs, B. R. Clemesha, H. Takahashi, M. A. Abdu e C. J. Zamlutti. No final da década de 1980, identificou pela primeira vez no Brasil, as bolhas ionosféricas como causa de fortes interferências/interrupções durante a noite nas telecomunicações trans-ionosféricas, sobre todo o território brasileiro. As bolhas ionosféricas acontecem sobre todo o território brasileiro. Vários casos dessas interferências já foram registrados por Operadoras de telecomunicações no Brasil. Essas bolhas ocorrem principalmente de outubro a março e sempre á noite. Desde a descoberta das bolhas, mais de 400 trabalhos científicos (papers) sobre esse fenômeno foram publicados por pesquisadores do INPE em periódicos internacionais. Participou de diversas campanhas de experimentos ionosféricos por foguetes, nacionais e estrangeiros, levados a cabo tanto no Brasil como nos Estados Unidos (Bases de lançamento de foguetes da Barreira do Inferno, Alcântara e Wallops Islands na Virgínia, respectivamente) para a pesquisa dessas bolhas. Esses foguetes passaram pela primeira vez dentro das bolhas e mediram campos elétricos e densidade eletrônica, utilizando cargas úteis totalmente construídas no INPE. Este autor recebeu do Editor-Chefe do periódico Advances in Space Research/ COSPAR- Committee on Space Research, título de um dos dez melhores revisores do ano de 2013. Em 2014 recebeu o Certificado de Excelência em Revisão (Certificate of Excellence in Reviewing) do periódico "Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics. É Membro Titular, eleito por unanimidade, da Academia de Ciências do Estado de São Paulo - ACIESP. Membro do Conselho Diretor da ACIESP. Tem dezenas de orientações de Mestrado e Doutorado e Iniciação Científica concluídas. Pesquisador Nível 1A do CNPq desde 1995. Membro do CA, e Coordenador do CA do CNPq mais de uma vez. Consultor Ad-Hoc do CNPq, FAPESP, NASA (EEUU) etc. Detém prêmios ( MARC/NSF-EEUU e Noche de Logros da Universidade de Porto Rico) e diversas honrarias científicas. Prêmio CAPES (2016) por coorientação. Indicado (2018) Pesquisador Emérito do Observatório de Arecibo em Porto Rico/EEUU (National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center-NAIC). Detém Score mais alto que 95% dos membros do Research Gate em 9/4/2019, de acordo com o próprio RG. Atual campo de atuação científica: Geociências,/Plasmas Espaciais.

Este estagio no Instituto Max-Planck de Munique (Max-Planck Institut fur Extraterrestrische Physik - Munchen) teve como objetivo a consecucao de uma pesquisa ionosferica do IMP iniciada na campanha de modificacao da ionosfera intitulada "Coloured Bubbles" levada a cabo em 1982 por foguetes brasileiros Sonda III lancados da Barreira do Inferno, Natal, RN. Participaram deste evento o Professor G. Haerendel, o Dr. M. A. Abdu e este autor. Os experimentos por foguetes consisitiram na liberacao de nuvens de Bario e Europium na faixa de altitude de ~150km-550km a fim de se estudar as bolhas ionosfericas. Esta visita ao Instituto Max Planck foi convite do Professor G. Haerendel a ambos pesquisadores, ou seja, o Dr. M.A Abdu e este autor.

Este autor participou de um gupo internacional de estudos do sisitema ionosfera-termosfera-magnetosfera-meio interplanetario atraves de campanhas experimentais regulares oo mundo inteiro em colaboracao com a instituicao norte-americana denominada SAIC. Esse grupo de estudos se reunia anualmente em workshops para discutir os resultados de tais campanhas experimentais e sumariar os resultados das pesquisas dos varios grupos inernacionais. Varias secoes especiais foram publicadas em revistas indexadas tais como por exemplo a Annales Geophysicae.
