Lonza?s Consumer Care BU serves the Personal Care, Nutrition and Hygiene markets primarily at the raw ingredient level, where Hair, Scalp & Skin Care were the strategic focus areas for the BU, which justified the significant investment in establishing a new Global hair research centre. During this role, I was responsible for creating & implementing a technical strategy plan for the Lonza hair care business for the following 3/5/10 year period which was designed to align & stretch corporate sales targets. The initial approach focussed on improving existing data packages for on-range products (i.e. generating new claims to increase price point) and simultaneously focus on creating and filling a newly created innovation pipeline for new products / chemistries. South America (in particular, the Brazilian market) was selected as the strategic focus region due to the speed at which the market operates and size of the market opportunity. Initial focus was aimed at establishing joint projects with customers to develop new products and test methods to meet customer?s desired claims. Management Responsibilities ? Building a central team of up to 10 scientists forming the Global Hair Centre based in Blackley, UK. ? Overall responsibility and management of the Scalp Care & anti-dandruff team based in Georgia, USA and leading the research program within. ? Took additional role as Interim Global Head of Skin Care (April 2016 ? June 2017) to oversee all research work conducted in the Global Skin Care labs in New Jersey, USA (Allendale & South Plainfield). ? Established an international network of focused technical efforts in hair care with relevant regional labs. ? Management of the ?Global Satellite Hair Care Centre? (Salto, Brazil) with a new purpose built lab opening Q1 2018, its primary function being to support strategic focus & enable Lonza to quickly respond to the needs of customers ? and to reflect the changing dimensions of this important regional market.
