  ECOSS - Experience and Challenges with Open Source Software, Descrição: The purpose is to identify methodological challenges and revised guidelines for supporting adoption of open source software (OSS) in Norwegian, software-intensive companies. The research approaches are interdisciplinary and empirically based on real-life case studies, with a longitudinal contact between researchers and practitioners. A broad network of national companies and international researcher colleagues have been mobilized.   HPCS, Descrição: Nem todos os problemas em computacao podem ser resolvidos por um unico processador. Para alguns tipos de problemas mais complexos, alguns cientistas usam os computadores paralelos, sistemas de computacao de alto desempenho (em ingles HPC - High Performance Computing), ou super computacao.   Science of Design Project, Descrição: The goal of this project was to enable tool-assisted analysis of a given software architecture and a proposed change, in order to determine the relative difficulty of implementing the desired change. The assessment of a proposed change in the context of a reasonable software architecture requires a significant element of human judgment, and cannot be automated.   Controlled Experiments in Visual Data Mining (VDM) Tools, Descrição: VDM Systems have a natural conflict between its ability to make it easier for users to understand, interpret and manipulate large data sets (what we call the "discoverability") and its computer usability. Often, the visual metaphors used to facilitate the "discoverability" negatively affect the usability of the system. Thus, we aim to ensure that systems for visual data mining are usable and useful.   Readers, Descrição: This research focus on developing techniques to analyze software documents for defect detection. More especifically, mutation testing and document reading techniques will be tailored to detect defects in software formal specifications and source code at Brazilian and American academia and industries. This family of software analysis technologies will be empirically validated in controlled experiments, and packaged in tailorable and reusable software engineering laboratory packages. The goals of this work are: - to create software analysis technologies that can be successfully used for defect detection in software specifications and code, and develop empirical methods that can be followed to continually improve those techniques in different environments and cultural settings; - to develop evaluation methods that can be used to compare diverse software defect detection technologies in academic and industrial settings; - to expand the software analysis technology base, creating new laboratory packages that can be adapted and reused by other software engineering researchers, based upon their own environmental and cultural needs.   Clearing House Project, Descrição: The DoD Acquisition Best Practices Clearinghouse (BPCh) facilitates the selection and implementation of systems engineering and software acquisition practices appropriate to the needs of individual acquisition programs. The BPCh uses an evidence-based approach, linking to existing resources that describe how to implement various best practices. These linked resources also provide descriptions of the practical results (both good and bad) of applying the practices in various contexts, from which users can learn about the results to be expected in their environment.   Data Analysis at Brazilian National Oil Agency(ANP), Descrição: The Program of Quality Monitoring of Fuels (PMQC) of the Brazilian National Oil Agency (ANP) monitors the quality of fuels of more than the 26,000 fuel ranks of the country. This program involves 20 universities and centers of research. This project aims at to create a system of support to the collection, formatting, standardization and analysis of the data of the PMQC. A distributed system is being developed for use in the involved institutions in the program. This system allows the creation of local databases that can be extended for the proper needs of Researcher and Development of each partner institution of the program, at the same time where it guarantees the standardization of the data set required by the ANP.
