  Fragilidade do Ecossistema Antártico: Investigando os impactos da ação humana no metabolismo e na biodiversidade dos organismos marinhos austrais - FRÁGILMAR, Descrição: A Antártida, com as suas condições climáticas extremas, é o ambiente favorável à evolução de uma biota única que desenvolveu adaptações bioquímicas e morfológicas notáveis. A investigação destas adaptações pode resultar em descobertas valiosas para a medicina e a indústria. Ao mesmo tempo, as interações da biota Antártica com as pressões adicionais causadas pelas atividades humanas, locais e globais, ainda não são bem compreendidas e causam preocupação. A antropização tem impacto direto na estabilidade dos ecossistemas e, consequentemente, afeta uma ampla gama de serviços ecossistêmicos. Infelizmente sabemos muito pouco sobre os mecanismos moleculares básicos e as respostas metabólicas das células dos organismos marinhos da Antártida aos desafios impostos pelo ambiente. A medição do estresse celular utilizando parâmetros metabólicos e moleculares como indicadores é uma importante ferramenta para a compreensão dos processos evolutivos de adaptação e biogeografia de peixes e invertebrados, permitindo inferir sobre como estes animais responderão a futuras mudanças ambientais. Esta proposta pretende: 1) Realizar o levantamento da ictiofauna da Baía do Almirantado por DNA ambiental (eDNA); 2) Verificar os parâmetros de referência (dieta e de metabolismo) em peixes da Baía do Almirantado; 3) Detectar e quantificar contaminantes ambientais (nanopartículas plásticas, metais, poluentes orgânicos persistentes, contaminantes emergentes) em peixes e gastrópodes da Baía do Almirantado e 4) Avaliar experimentalmente, por meio de metodologias ômicas, peixes (N. rossii e N. coriiceps) e gastrópodes (N. concinna) submetidos a estressores ambientais (temperatura, salinidade, pH, metais e nanopartículas plásticas).   Dangerous waters: examining the harmful effects of microplastics and antimony on Spitzschlammschnecke (Lymnaea stagnalis)., Descrição: **Project Overview: Dangerous Waters - Investigating the toxic effects of microplastics and antimony on the freshwater snail Lymnaea stagnalis**.The project "Dangerous Waters" aims to investigate the toxic effects of microplastics (MP) and antimony (Sb) on the freshwater snail Lymnaea stagnalis. Funded by the Tyrolean Science Fund, the study will be led by Dr. Claudio Adriano Piechnik at the University of Innsbruck. The increasing prevalence of microplastics in various ecosystems and the harmful effects of antimony, a technologically critical element, form the basis of this research. **Aims:**.1. To assess the toxic physiological effects of MP and Sb on Lymnaea stagnalis at individual, cellular and molecular levels.2. To determine the combined effects of MP and Sb on protein homeostasis, oxidative stress and immune responses.3. Analyze the accumulation and localization of MP and Sb in snail tissues and the surrounding environment after exposure.**Methodology:**.- Collect Lymnaea stagnalis from local lakes and acclimate in controlled aquaria.- Expose snails to Sb, MP, and a combination of both for 28 days.- Evaluate immune response, protein homeostasis, and markers of oxidative stress.**Expected results:**.- Improved understanding of the toxic effects of MP and Sb on freshwater snails.- Insights into how these contaminants affect broader freshwater ecosystems.- Valuable data to inform risk assessment and pollution management strategies.**Funding and Collaboration:**.The project requests funding for laboratory supplies, materials, and a technician.   Addressing the emergence and spread of leishmaniasis in the borders of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, Descrição: Leishmaniasis is one of the most important vector-borne diseases worldwide causing more than 2 million new cases per year. In South America, both cutaneous leishmaniasis (skin infections) and the more severe visceral form (affecting vital organs) of the disease are emerging in many countries and expanding northward and southward. In the border area of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay, the burden of disease is among the highest in the entire region. Leishmaniasis emergence is strongly associated with environmental and anthropogenic changes. In the study area, different forms of transmission occur in a diversity of settings, ranging from forest to urban, and from work to peri-domestic associated risks. The region also has a wide diversity of human populations, including different cultural backgrounds (e.g. Guarani people), migrants (transient and permanent settlements), and tourists. The project design incorporates an analysis of biological, environmental and social variables associated with disease transmission risks in different landscapes. In each country a specific set of interventions will be developed to address the emergence and spread of leishmaniasis. The project will engage researchers and decision makers from the three countries to respond to the explicit demand of public health authorities to improve the effectiveness of leishmaniasis control programs. The participation of decision makers from the local, subnational and national levels of the three countries, and the technical collaboration of experts of the Pan-American Health Organization, will promote the uptake of results and implementation of the proposed multi-sector prevention and control strategies, as well as their replication and scaling up in other high burden areas of the sub-region.   Instituto Nacional de Ciencia e Tecnologia Antartico de Pesquisas Ambientais, Descrição: A proposta aprovada pelo CNPq visa implementar rede de monitoramento atmosférico, oceânico e criosferico, na região Antártica, mais especificamente na Baia do Alimirantado, Ilha Rei George, junto a Estação Antártica Comandante Ferraz.A proposta tem a participação de 51 pesquisadores lotados em 14 instituições de ensino e pesquisa sendo 60 % concentrados na região sudeste, 20% na região sul e 10 % para as regiões nordeste e centro-oeste.   Evolução e Biodiversidade na Antártica: a resposta da vida a mudanças (continuidade de projeto - Edith Fanta), Descrição: A plasticidade genotípica e fenotípica e o sucesso adaptativo dos mecanismos bioquímicos e fisiológicos para fazerem frente às oscilações de salinidade e temperatura no ambiente aquático e ao bioacúmulo de fluoreto no ecossistema Antártico, serão estudados em peixes nototenioideos. Conhecida a linha base de algumas espécies para as condições ambientais atuais, verificaremos a adaptabilidade dos peixes às conseqüências de alterações climáticas desses fatores no metabolismo e nos sistemas enzimáticos com reflexos no comportamento, morfologia e fisiologia dos peixes.   Biologia Integrativa de Peixes Antárticos e Tropicais e Impacto ambiental, Descrição: Estudamos a biologia adaptativa de peixes marinhos Antárticos e Tropicais de forma integrativa, através de várias especialidades como a morfologia e ultraestrutura celular, biologia molecular, comportamento, fisiologia e bioquímica, dentro de um contexto ecológico. Temos prestado serviços de assessoria ambiental, e realizado pesquisas de avaliação de impacto ambiental em ambiente marinho relacionado com as atividades sísmicas de prospecção de petróleo em áreas marinhas, e alguns estudos com o efeito de agrotóxico e hidrocarbonetos de petróleo em peixes. Também estudamos os sistemas de áreas protegidas marinhas e as medidads de conservação e gerenciamento de ecossistemas vinculado à pesca principalmente antártica. Desenvolvemos um programa de avaliação da percepção da Antártica entre o público em geral, e de educação ambiental. Participamos de foros internacionais não só apresentando resultados de pesquisa, ou participando de projetos internacionais, mas também como membros e/ou representantes do Brasil, como o Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research (SCAR), a Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), o Comitê para o Ano Polar Internacional (IPY-JC)e o grupo de Áreas Protegidas da International Union for Conservation (IUCN).. , Situação: Concluído; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Integrantes: Claudio Adriano Piechnik - Coordenador.
