Elaine Espindola Baldissera

Possui graduação em Letras Habilitação Plena Em Inglês Português pela Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina (2000). Também possui Mestrado e Doutorado em Letras (Inglês e Literatura Correspondente) pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (2005 e 2010, respectivamente). Obteve seu Pós-doutorado na The Hong Kong Polytechnic University onde trabalhou sob a orientação do Professor Christian M.I.M. Matthiessen no projeto intitulado Translator's Education: From a Vocational into a more Grammar Based Approach. Trabalhou como Professora Assistente na The Hong Kong Polytechnic University onde atuou nas áreas de Lingüística Aplicada, Tradução, Aquisição de Segunda Língua, World Englishes, Análise do Discurso, entre outras. Trabalhou também como Professora Adjunta da Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) onde ministrou aulas para cursos de graduação no Departamento de Traducción e Interpretación e classes de pós-graduação no Departamento de Lingüística. Atualmente é Professora Adjunta da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB)/CCHLA/DLEM. É coordenadora do CPI da LSF, participante do Grupo de Pesquisa Sistêmica, Ambientes e Linguagens (SAL/CNPq), do Grupo em Linguística Forense na UFSC e do Núcleo de Estudos em Língua Portuguesa (NELP-UFSM). Suas áreas de interesse são: Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional; Análise Positiva do Discurso; Estudos da Tradução; Linguagem em Contextos Profissionais.

Projeção Escrita e Oral: Comparação Trinocular, Descrição: As línguas constroem seu sistema lógico diferentemente em diferentes tipos de discurso. Este projeto visa compreender os padrões de complexos oracionais (parataxis, hipotaxis, etc.), os quais realizam a retórica do disdcurso, isto é, os recursos lexicogramáticais utilizados para a realização do sistema semântico de projeção. A manifestação de projeção é analisada, na presente pesquisa, em complexos oracionais in termos de verbos de 'dizer' e 'pensar', uma vez que esses são processos que encapsulam um potencial de realizar projeção de locuções e/ou ideias. Com vistas a descrever e comparar a realização de textos orais e escrito em contextos variados, pretende-se coletar textos escritos e orais advindos de instituições que sejam representativas de cada um dos processos sociossemióticos, sejam eles contextos jurídicos, religiosos, médicos, acadêmicos, entre outros. Desta forma, o nível semântico-discursivo (variáveis de campo e modo) é adotado como ponto de entrada para selecionar os textos. Para o modo, duas outras variáveis são levadas em consideração: (a) meio: envolvendo as modalidade escrita e falada da língua, bem como as variantes dessas modalidade, a exemplo dos textos escritos para serem falados, além das implicações originárias do canal de realização da linguagem (gráfico, eletrônico, outros); e (b) turno: mesmo considerando a natureza dialógica da linguagem, consideram-se aqui as efetivas possibilidaded de troca de turno na circulação do gênero, o que resulta nas subcategorias de monólogo ou diálogo. Pesquisas linguísticas, como esta apresentada aqui, localizada no espaço entre o sistema e a instância se mostram de suma relevância uma vez que oferecem uma visão trinocular da língua. Isto é, este estudo é multidimensional, pois os dados aqui levantados serão analisados e interpretados desde as três perspectivas de linguagem propostas por Matthiessen (2007): ?de cima?, ?em torno?, ?de baixo?. Essa pesquisa será realizada tanto por (i) hierarquia de estratificação para investigar a gramática, sem perder de vista os aspectos textuais e contextuais; como por (ii) escala da instanciação para descrever linguisticamente diferentes gêneros textuais, possibilitando a apresentação de padrões de variação de registos. Portanto, tais padrões estão correlacionados a características linguísticas do texto em contexto. Gêneros textuais são produzidos com objetivos específicos nas práticas sociais da vida diária. Uma teoria linguística proposta para caracterizar os gêneros precisa oferecer ferramentas analíticas que possibilitem a apreensão do dinamismo das práticas sociais. Nessa perspectiva, acredito que a noção de Contexto de Cultura precisa ser explorada, ou, até mesmo, desdobrada a partir da abordagem sistêmico-funcional, de maneira que compreendamos como atores sociais de naturezas diversas, originários de instituições socioculturais, interferem nas formas padronizadas de interação pela linguagem.. , Situação: Em andamento; Natureza: Pesquisa. , Integrantes: Elaine Espindola Baldissera - Coordenador.

A Practical Online Resource on how to apply Grammar Lessons in the English Classroom, Descrição: In the context of language teaching, language teaching is here taken be the means through which language is used to learn, communicate, and also the subject matter that determines what the student learns, in Halliday?s (2004) terms this means to learn a language, through language, about a language. The intent of this proposal is to provide language learners instruction in content and language. The focus of this online resource is that it will function as ?mini-lessons? that will allow students to become independent learners as they will be able to search for the lesson that they need for sorting out their specific language concern. As this is the first component of a future workbench, this will trigger the implementation of the Text Archive, the Glossary of terms that are dependent on an on-the-ground student centered comprehensive systematic functional English grammar analysis. Critical Thinking in the classroom: Analyzing articles from the Economist weekly magazine, Descrição: Since the year of 2008 the world has dived into an economic crisis that surpasses that of 1929. One of the elements that has triggered such a crisis is pointed as the process of deregulation of the economy by national Governments, that allow the market regulates itself. This economic philosophy, as it were, is referred to as neoliberalism (Harvey, 2005). The process entails changes in laws that will grant economy agents, such as banks and financial entities to operate freely under their own rules, and it is accompanied by a discursive practice that sustains and aims at giving it the necessary legitimacy in society. In this context, this research project aims at investigating the discourse of the weekly British magazine The Economist in order to verify the discursive strategies used to refer to political and economic practices of China. This study departs from Qi (2013), which analyzed the rhetorical structures of five articles published by The Economist focusing on China, to expand the data and also analyze the corpus in terms of thematic relations in order to unveil topical choices to construe arguments, from a quantitative perspective. The analysis also leads to a qualitative analysis and discussion of data that aims at reflecting on the role of the teaching of critical thinking at tertiary level, insofar as the teaching and learning of a foreign language also requires a deeper understanding of argumentative strategies and the context of situation that drives lexicogrammatical choices. The corpus of the research is composed of articles on economics and politics on China, published by The Economist between August 2012 to March 2013. The research adopts a sociosemiotic perspective and takes the context of situation into consideration to analyze the textual mechanisms (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2004; Martin & Rose 2003) that allow the packing of information and produce the text flow. Estudos da Tradução em Interfaces com Linguística Sistêmico-funcional e metodologias de corpora, Descrição: O projeto insere-se nas interfaces indicadas no título, quais sejam, estudos da tradução, linguística sistêmico-funcional e metodologias de corpora. Em sua configuração teórico-metodológica, afilia-se a uma das doze áreas de pesquisa em tradução apontadas por Williams e Chesterman (2002, p. 6-27) com concentração em 3 (três) eixos distintos: (i) comparação de traduções e seus respectivos Textos de Partida (PT); (ii) comparação de traduções com textos não-traduzidos; (iii) tradução anotada. Os três eixos são explorados no par linguístico inglês-português nas duas direções. Os parâmetros da linguística sistêmico-funcional informam a descrição textual e as metodologias oferecidas pelos chamados estudos da tradução baseados em corpora - incluindo-se o uso de recursos eletrônicos e softwares - são utilizados para processamento automático e semi-automático dos textos. A partir de 2009, a fonte de dados para pesquisa tem sido - primordialmente, mas não exclusivamente - textos de teoria de tradução traduzidos ou a serem traduzidos para o contexto brasileiro, no período compreendido entre 1998 e 2008.
