  The Processing review prepared for:Pennsyvania transformer, Descrição: The goal of this Report is to review processing procedures used at the PTTI in order to assure mechanical and dielectric performance of power transformers and to assess "technical costs" of processing procedures, which really require a substantial time and energy consumption. The processing Standards available were elaborated in early 1980th likely by McGraw-Edison Power System Group and basically remained unchanged until now The processing consider time-based procedures, which sometimes seem superfluous ones and likely affect economical aspects of production as well as some technical aspects (e.g. insulation/oil loss of life). Some processing procedures need in reconsideration due to change of insulation materials, deterioration of processing equipment (e.g. sealing deterioration in the vapor-phase autoclave), and enter the market new more efficient measuring devices.   Discussion of the comments of TF11 on WG12.18 Report Transformer Life Management, Descrição: The catalogue of defects and faults proposed in this report implies that the nature and the location of faults and defects in the equipment are known.   Report on the design review of 224MVA, 230/140/13.2kV - Auto Transformer, Descrição: The basic objectives of the design review has been the following: "A clear understanding of the technical requirements; "Indication area where special attention may be required; "Verification compliance of design with technical requirements; "Design review directions suggested by the FLB Spec. "Identification of transformer design features, particularly: "Core: configuration, flux density, overexcitation, losses, clamping and grounding system; "Winding; evaluation of short circuit capability, electrical withstand strength and thermal performance including specified overloading; "Major insulation (evaluation of the dielectric strength for clearance between windings, phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth); "Evaluation, origin and distribution of stray losses; "Transformer processing details as to keeping the winding compression, proper insulation impregnation and moisture evacuation; "Oil features; "Test program aspects. The basic goal of design review has been verification and improvement of transformer performance at the design stage.   The Condition Assessment and Design Review of 730MVA ,22/420kV GSU Transformer on the Kendal TPP Transformer SN 28530, Descrição: The Report presents a design review of the 730 MVA, 22/420 kV Generator Power Transformer that was installed at the Kendal Thermal Power Plant in connection with its failure and revealed significant winding insulation deterioration. The main Objectives of Transformer Design Review has been the following: "Establishing failure modes and possible failure cause. "Clarification of the real condition of the transformer and particularly the thermal state of the windings that exhibited a premature critical insulation aging. "Assessment of the Effectiveness of the temperature rise test at the factory. "Assessment of the remnant life of insulation. Discussion of the following problems: "What is the reason for localized core overheating?Are there any problems with major and minor transformer insulation? How the revealed deficiency could affect insulation safety margin? "What the mechanical safety margin of the windings under effect of through fault current?   The Condition Assessment and Design Review of 350MVA ,24/420kV GSU Transformer on the Koeberg NPP, Descrição: The objectives of ZTZ-Service work have been to analyse and discuss the following Subjects of concern: 1. Deterioration and overheating the main (shunt) contacts of diverter switch of LTC MR G1-1612D , which has been the most likely cause of transformer failure in 2002. Trace of heating and coking nave been observed while inspection of 6 units. Service advisory to make annually preventive off-load switching in order to clean contacts likely may not be adequate for heated contacts. Heating the contacts could affect on mechanical characteristics of springs and reduce relevant compressive strength. Diverter switch is not arranged with oil sampling point to provide predictive maintenance of the diverter switch.. 2.Thermal state of transformer. Reason for high FAL content. Adequacy of operation with 4 instead of 5 coolers. 3.Oil deterioration as a factor of cellulose decomposition acceleration. 4. Static Electrification considerations versus cooling (number of operating pumps) limitation. Above stated problems was discussed in September 2002 with Alstom experts (see Appendix) and some reliability-centered actions have been coordinated.
