RAFAEL DA SILVA DE SOUZA

Possui graduação em Astronomia pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2004) e doutorado em Astrofísica pela Universidade de São Paulo (2009). Realizou pós-doutorado no Instituto Kavli de Física e Matemática do Universo, Japão (2010-2011), no Instituto Coreano de Astronomia e Ciência Espacial (KASI), Coreia do Sul (2012-2014), e na Universidade Eötvös Loránd, Hungria (2014-2016). De 2017 a 2020, foi pós-doutorando na Universidade da Carolina do Norte, EUA, e, entre 2020 e 2022, atuou como Professor Associado no Observatório Astronômico de Xangai, China. Atualmente, é Senior Lecturer em Data Science no Centro de Pesquisa em Astrofísica da Universidade de Hertfordshire, Reino Unido, e presidente da Iniciativa de Cosmostatística (COIN).Recebeu diversos prêmios e reconhecimentos, incluindo o prêmio de Excelência em Pesquisa do Observatório Astronômico de Xangai (2022) e o Prose Award para Melhor Livro em Cosmologia e Astronomia (2018). Também foi laureado com a Marie-Curie Fellowship pelo programa AstroFit (2017) e o prêmio da Associação Internacional de Astroestatística (2016) por seu trabalho em Astroestatística.Sua atuação acadêmica e científica concentra-se nas áreas de astrofísica extragaláctica, com foco em evolução de galáxias e sistemas estelares extragalácticos. Atua na interface entre estatística, aprendizado de máquina e astrofísica, desenvolvendo e aplicando técnicas como Modelos Bayesianos Hierárquicos, aprendizado supervisionado e não supervisionado, redes neurais e modelos de inferência sem likelihood. Coordenou projetos de pesquisa financiados por agências internacionais, como o "CAS Talents" (2022-2025) pela Academia Chinesa de Ciências, e o "MESCAL: Multidimensional Exploration of Stellar Clusters via Automated Learning" (2021-2024) pela Fundação Nacional de Ciências da China. Além disso, tem experiência na orientação de estudantes de graduação e pós-graduação em temas relacionados à astrofísica, aprendizado de máquina e análise de dados.
