Atualmente é professor associado (MS-5-3) da Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Tem experiência na área de Física, com ênfase em Estruturas Eletrônicas e Propriedades Elétricas de Superfícies; Interf. e Partículas, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: xps, xpd, auger spectra, pd e aes. Eletronic and geometric structure of nano materials : synchrotron radiation studies, Descrição: Designing a surface with predefined characteristics to work as a catalyst for a specific reaction, or with certain magnetic properties, or maybe to have an stable interface with an underling support as is needed for a high k material on a silicon wafer to produce nano CMOS semiconductor device has been the long term goal of many surface scientist. So far it has been a rather evasive goal and the success rate close to zero, but one can be absolutely convinced that any progress in this direction will be based on a complete understanding of the inter play between electronic structure and the position of the atoms on the surface or at an interfaces. These atoms find themselves in an environment that has few symmetries, nearest neighbors can be different from site to site, atomic distances likewise. Over all it is the electronic structure of the atoms that will define these features, but at times the atomic arrangement can influence the electronic structure. The observation of this kind of inter-relations requires the use of different experimental techniques and computational approaches. In Brazil very few centers have groups that have this kind of capabilities. In this thematic project we will try to update the experimental infrastructure operated by the Surface Group in ?Campinas? (Unicamp/LNLS/ UFSCAR) and use the ?training? associated with a DFG/IRTG project with Uni Dortmund to help develop our capabilities both experimental and theoretical. We will explore these interactions basically in thee types of structure, surface alloys, metal oxide nanoparticle systems and semiconductor oxide interfaces, using XPS, PED and STM. Determinação do nível de Fermi relativo em ligas metálicas, Descrição: Um do parâmetros fundamentais e de ligas metálicas é a Energia de Fermi, um nível de referencia geralmente usado como base para definir todos os outros níveis energéticos do sólido. È um parâmetro de volume cuja determinação absoluta é quase impossível na maioria dos casos.Quando estudamos mudanças na energia cinética de fotoelétrons excitados por raios-x(XPS) devido a formação de uma liga por exemplo, em principio poder-se-ia pensar em derivar o nível de Fermi da mudança associada com a formação de uma liga. Uma análise mais cuidadosa entretanto mostra que entram outros fatores neste deslocamento, um dos principais sendo a transferência ou redistribuição de carga entre os componentes da liga ou mesmo entre os níveis eletrônicos de um mesmo componente. Neste trabalho vai ser estudada a viabilidade de usar o deslocamento quimico de um átomo de gás nobre implantado num metal ou numa liga metálica para mapear as mudanças relativas ni nível de Fermi com a variação da concentração da liga.Em principio como o átomo de gás nobre tem seus níveis completos não se esperará transferência de carga ou rearranjo de cargas entre seus níveis, assim o deslocamento quimico refletiria diretamente as mudanças ni nível de Fermi. Estudo da Estrutura Eletrônica de Ligas Metálicas por Luz Síncrotron, Descrição: O projeto apresenta um programa no estudo de superfícies a ser realizado essencialmente pelo Grupo de Física de Superfícies da Unicamp (adicionado pelo Dr. P. Nascente UFSCar) com o aproveitamento de todo o potencial oferecido por um feixe de fotons oriundo de um anel síncrotron, no caso LNLS.Ele será realizado em duas etapas sendo a primeira a montagem de infra-estrutura necessária para a realização de experiências baseadas em espectrosocopias de elétrons com alta resolução energética. Pretende-se na segunda etapa, utlizar as técnicas XPS,XAES,LEED,XPD,AES,EXAFS e SEXAFS para investigar a estrutura atômica e eletrônica de superfícies de ligas massivas bem como aquelas formadas por deposição e difusão de um metal sobre um substrato monocristalino do outro componente da liga.
